Under the umbrella of Sickle Cell Anemia Eradication Program supported by CSR funding from GIC_Re, an IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) program was organized at the INRECA Sansthan. This program organised in 1 school; of Ambawadi village. These programs are being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vinodkumar Koushik Sir.
The objective of these programs is to raise awareness in rural areas and enhance understanding among people about the disease. As today dated 11.10.2025, an IEC program was organized in Ambawadi village of Dediyapada Taluka, and in the Kalyanji Maheta Secondary Ashramshala of Ambawadi village, 78 blood samples were collected for the sickling test by Lab Technician Jagdishbhai. The sickling test reports are being prepared by Lab Technicians Radhaben and Swatiben.

Sickle Cell Disease is a hereditary (genetic) disorder, meaning it is passed down from parents to children. This disease occurs when both the mother and the father carry the sickle cell gene (they are carriers).

More information about Sickle Cell Disease: In this condition, the red blood cells, which are normally round in shape, become crescent or sickle-shaped. These sickle-shaped cells can get stuck in blood vessels, which obstructs the flow of blood and oxygen to different parts of the body.

Symptoms can include: Fatigue
Pain (often in the joints or chest)
Weakness
Higher risk of infections
In severe cases, organ damage can also occur.

Causes:
A child develops sickle cell disease when they inherit a defective gene (called HB S) from both the mother and the father.
If the gene is inherited from only one parent, the person is a carrier β€” they do not have the disease themselves but can pass the gene to their children.

Treatment:
Currently, there is no complete cure for sickle cell disease, but it can be managed.
With proper care, regular medication, medical check-ups, and lifestyle changes, the quality of life of a person with sickle cell disease can be improved. Important: Genetic testing before marriage is very important to help prevent passing on the disease to Children.

This program organised in 1 school; of Chopadwaw & Chopadwaw village. These programs are being conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vinodkumar Koushik Sir.

Why is Sickle Cell Disease serious for tribal communities?
This disease is particularly seen in higher numbers within our tribal communities. Often, people are unaware that they or their children are carriers of the disease.
When both husband and wife are carriers of sickle cell, the chances of the child being born with the disease increase significantly.

What can be done?
πŸ‘‰ Get a blood test before marriage
πŸ‘‰ Screening at the time of a child’s birth
πŸ‘‰ Spread awareness to every corner of the community
πŸ‘‰ Ensure adequate rest, proper nutrition, and regular medication
πŸ‘‰ Take advantage of the free treatment schemes provided by the government

A message to the community:
Brothers and sisters,
We all wish that the children of our community are born healthy, get a good education, and move forward in life.
For this, it is necessary that we all become aware of sickle cell disease and take a step forward towards eliminating it.

Final Message:
"Awareness is even greater than treatment."

Let’s all raise our voices together and say:
β€œA sickle cell-free society – our dream, our commitment.”
