On a park bench, in fresh air, surrounded by nature🍃

Today at Windlass River Valley(2nd branch of DR DIET THERAPY NUTRITION AND WELLNESS CLINIC DEHRADUN by DT DEEPSHIKHA) , I met a patient who had been struggling for months with:

Eating French Fries Can Harm Your Heart More Than a Cigarette

This may sound dramatic — but it isn’t.

As a Clinical Dietitian, I’ve seen more young patients with clogged arteries, inflammation, and early metabolic issues…

not because of fried food, but because of the kind of oil they’re unknowingly consuming.

The Real Problem Isn’t Potatoes… It’s Reheated Oil

Most restaurants repeatedly reheat the same batch of oil.

Each time oil is heated beyond its smoke point, it forms:

1️⃣ Trans Fatty Acids (TFAs)

Multiple studies published in the American Heart Association Journals confirm that TFAs increase LDL (bad cholesterol) and decrease HDL (good cholesterol).

This directly contributes to atherosclerosis, the hardening of arteries.

2️⃣ Oxidised Lipids

Reheated oil produces aldehydes — toxic compounds also found in cigarette smoke.

These damage cells, accelerate aging, and create systemic inflammation.

3️⃣ Free Radicals

Your body interprets these as chemical stress, leading to insulin resistance and increased cardiovascular strain.

So yes…
regularly eating french fries fried in reheated oil can be worse for your cardiovascular system than inhaling a cigarette.

Because while one affects your lungs, the other is silently impacting your heart, arteries, and metabolism.

🍟 “But I only eat fries once in a while…”

Most people don’t realize how often these foods appear in their weekly routine.

Small doses → repeated exposure → long-term damage.

Last week, a patient walked into my clinic frustrated.
“Ma’am, I’m eating healthy, walking every day… but something feels off.”
