| Delhi: On India to launch India's free nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign, Dr Neerja Bhatla, gynaecologist and the former HOD of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at AIIMS, New Delhi, says, "The HPV vaccine rollout for 14-year-old girls is a long-awaited and very joyous occasion. This is a cancer caused by a virus, and a vaccine has been developed against it, which will prevent infection... It's also been observed that this is the best age group. Giving this vaccine before the age of 15, or up to 14, provides maximum benefit. It builds a very good antibody titer, providing excellent protection in the long run."

She adds, "Every vaccine has side effects, and just like every other vaccine, this one also has them. Those are the usual side effects: pain at the injection site. There may be some redness, a fever, a headache, a slight nausea, and a slight dizziness... The important thing is that their severity is very mild... No such case has come to light which should cause us any worry, and globally, definitely crores of people have got it."
