10 weird signs your skin is actually healthy (even if it doesn’t look “perfect”), Part 2

1. Your skin feels slightly oily when you wake up
Overnight oil production helps protect and repair the skin barrier while you sleep.

2. Your skin looks a little red right after applying skincare
Mild, temporary redness can simply reflect normal circulation in the skin.

3. Your moisturiser takes time to absorb
That usually means your barrier already has natural oils and isn’t completely depleted.

4. You rarely feel the need to exfoliate
Healthy skin sheds dead cells naturally through a process called desquamation.

5. A breakout comes to a head quickly and resolves
Efficient healing often means your skin’s repair response is functioning well.

6. Your skin feels warm after cleansing
Cleansing can temporarily increase circulation, which is a normal response in healthy skin.

7. Your skin doesn’t react dramatically to new products
Stable skin tends to be less reactive because the barrier is intact.

8. You wake up with faint pillow marks that fade quickly
Good elasticity allows the skin to bounce back from pressure.

9. Your skin looks slightly different in different lighting
Real skin has natural texture and uneven light reflection.

10. Your skin looks better when you simplify your routine
When doing less works better, it usually means your skin biology is already balanced.

Healthy skin rarely looks “filtered.”
Most of the time, it simply functions, protects, and repairs itself quietly.

Stress doesn’t just affect your mind.
Your skin often shows the first signs.

When the body stays in a prolonged stress response, cortisol (the stress hormone) rises. Over time, this can show up on the skin as puffiness, breakouts, dullness, and dehydration.

This is why skincare alone cannot fully fix stress-related skin changes. Even the most expensive creams cannot regulate cortisol levels.

What actually helps:

• Consistent sleep cycles (7–8 hours supports skin repair)
• Managing stress triggers (movement, breathing exercises, journaling)
• Balanced nutrition with enough protein and healthy fats
• Daily sun protection
• Barrier-supportive skincare instead of aggressive routines

Healthy skin isn’t only about what you apply, it’s also about what your body is experiencing internally.

Frizz is usually treated like a hair problem.

Most of the time, it’s actually a hair care habit problem.

If your hair constantly feels dry, rough, or frizzy, here are a few things worth stopping, and what to do instead.

• Stop brushing dry hair aggressively
Brushing dry strands disrupts the cuticle and increases frizz.
→ Detangle gently when hair is damp using a wide-tooth comb.

• Stop over-washing with harsh shampoos
Frequent cleansing with strong surfactants strips natural oils.
→ Use a mild shampoo and focus cleansing on the scalp, not the lengths.

• Stop skipping conditioner
Conditioner smooths the hair cuticle and reduces friction.
→ Always condition mid-lengths and ends after washing.

• Stop using high heat without protection
Heat lifts the cuticle and worsens frizz over time.
→ Use heat protectant and keep styling temperatures moderate.

• Stop towel-rubbing wet hair
Rough drying increases breakage and frizz.
→ Gently blot with a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt.

Frizz isn’t always about buying more products.

Often, small changes in how you handle your hair make the biggest difference.

Hair health starts with scalp care, gentle handling, and consistent routines.

A lot of people tell me their skin feels dry right after a shower, and the first instinct is usually to reach for a heavier moisturiser. But quite often, the issue is the body wash that they use.

When a body wash is too harsh, it can leave the skin feeling tight or uncomfortable after bathing.

Bioderma’s Atoderm Gel Do**he is one option I often mention for people with dry or sensitive skin because it cleans without that stripped feeling.

Choosing a barrier-friendly body wash can make a real difference in how your skin feels every day.

Not every “pimple” is harmless.
Not every bruise is random.
And Botox? It’s not just for wrinkles.

Here’s what most people don’t realise:

Botox can be used therapeutically in the masseter muscles to reduce jaw pain from clenching and muscle overuse, facial slimming is often just a secondary effect.

Skin tags usually develop in areas of friction, collars, chains, folds like the armpits or eyelids. Location often explains cause.

A spot that bleeds repeatedly or doesn’t heal should never be dismissed as acne. Persistent lesions deserve evaluation.

And if you bruise easily, especially on thinning skin, targeted topicals like retinoids can help improve skin strength over time, under proper guidance.

Dermatology is about recognising patterns early.

The earlier you understand them,
the better your outcomes.

Skin patterns don’t lie.

When I see repeated inflammation, uneven texture, or a stressed barrier, it usually reflects what the skin is going through daily, not “bad skin” or bad luck.

Here’s what these patterns often point to:

• Too much, too fast
Over-layering actives or frequent product switching stresses the skin instead of fixing it.
→ Progress comes from control, not intensity.

• Lack of routine consistency
Inconsistent use slows repair and keeps skin reactive.
→ Repetition heals better than experimentation.

• Sun protection gaps
Pigmentation and delayed recovery often point to missed SPF.
→ Protection matters even on low-exposure days.

• Excess handling of the skin
Picking and frequent touching interrupt healing cycles.
→ Calm skin repairs itself more efficiently.

• Internal factors showing externally
Stress, sleep disruption, and hormones leave visible cues on the face.
→ Skin reflects the system it lives in.

I don’t need guesses, the skin gives clear feedback.

Skin care works best when habits, biology, and treatment are in sync.
Once they align, results stop being unpredictable.

Listen to your skin.
It’s already telling you what it needs.

Ageing rarely announces itself loudly.
It shows up in small, easy-to-miss ways.

Expressions that don’t bounce back as quickly.
Skin that looks dull even on your best, makeup-free days.
Marks that linger longer than they used to.
Base makeup sitting oddly by midday.
A neck that seems a step ahead of the face.
Glow that fades faster than expected.

These aren’t flaws.
They’re early shifts in skin behaviour, hydration, repair, and collagen response changing over time.

Not a reason to panic.
Just a cue to stop chasing quick fixes and start supporting skin function properly.

Good skin ages quietly.
Smart care makes it age well.

Laser hair reduction is not a one-size-fits-all treatment.

It can work beautifully for the right person, with the right machine, settings, and medical supervision.
But when done casually, incorrectly, or on the wrong candidate, it can backfire.

Things people don’t realise:
• Certain skin–hair combinations respond poorly
• Incorrect energy settings can stimulate hair instead of reducing it
• Hormonal areas need a different approach
• Not every hair type should be lasered the same way

That’s why laser is a medical procedure, not a beauty add-on.

If someone is suggesting laser just because “everyone is doing it”, pause.
The decision should be based on your skin type, hair type, growth pattern, and history, not pressure.

Good outcomes come from correct assessment, not trends.

Always consult. Always individualise.

When someone tells you to get laser hair reduction,
that’s pressure, not a medical reason.

Whether it’s a boyfriend, girlfriend, or anyone else,
laser should never come from obligation or expectation.

Laser hair reduction is a personal choice.
It’s about what you want for your body, comfort, convenience, or confidence.

As a dermatologist, my job is to:
• Explain if you’re a good candidate
• Set realistic expectations
• Ensure safety and skin health

Not to push you into it.
And not to let someone else decide for you.

Body hair isn’t a flaw.
Removing it is a choice, and consent matters more than opinions.

Do it because you want to.
Or don’t, both are valid.

Coffee, glycerin, Vaseline hair tonic, warm water bath, comforting? yes.
Hair botox? no.

Nothing harmful is happening here.
And nothing transformative either.

What’s being done is coating the hair lengths, not treating the scalp.
That’s why hair may feel softer or look shinier for a short time.

But this does not:
• strengthen hair roots
• improve hair growth
• reduce hair fall
• replace professional hair botox or medical treatments

Also, important to note:
If a formula isn’t applied on the scalp, it cannot influence hair fall, density, or regrowth in any meaningful way.

Hair fall is a scalp + follicle issue, not a strand-level problem.
Shine ≠ strength.
Smoothness ≠ growth.

So yes, nothing bad will happen.
But nothing significant will happen either.

DIY masks are cosmetic.
Hair botox is a professional conditioning procedure.
And hair fall needs diagnosis, not internet recipes.

Hair care works best when it’s boring, consistent, and evidence-based, not viral.
