🌍 TCIH Coalition welcomes the World Health Organization’s Draft Global Plan of Action on the Health of Indigenous Peoples.

Ahead of the 158th WHO Executive Board meeting (Geneva, 2–7 February 2026), TCIH Coalition President Tido von Schoen-Angerer spoke in a debate hosted by the People’s Health Movement (G2H2 Policy Debate Series) on the draft Plan:

🔹TCIH Coalition supports the WHO’s proposal to extend the process by one year to allow for broader and more meaningful Indigenous consultation and representation.

🔹While the draft places significant emphasis on Indigenous traditional medicine, the calls on WHO and Member States to strengthen support for Indigenous-led research and Indigenous knowledge systems.

🔹He also stresses that the Plan must go further by firmly embedding Indigenous self-determination, and by ensuring stronger obligations for Member States, particularly on data and accountability, to address persistent health inequities affecting Indigenous communities.

🆕Ahead of the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine (17–19 December, Delhi), the is calling on the World Health Organization (WHO) and Ministers of Health from all WHO regions to strengthen policies and increase research funding.

📈Millions of people rely on traditional healthcare every day, yet it receives only 1% of global research funding. This imbalance puts essential care at risk and prevents millions from accessing the services they rely on.

As President Dr. Tido von Schoen-Angerer stresses, policy and financing must reflect today’s health realities.
