Deformity of hand following burns in childhood leading to functional compromise and cosmetically unappealing hand. Was corrected surgically with skin taken from sole of the foot. The sole skin matches that of hand and does not leave any visible scarring. The appearance will improve further over a period of six months.

Now a days many ladies are coming to me for repair of their ear lobules after failed attempt to do it with glue. These ladies had visited a busy market in North Delhi where non-medicos or may be illiterate people are ready with a glue( cyanoacrylate comonly available for fixing slippers, crockery items and many more things). The basic principle of approximating two skin surfaces is that they should be made raw. But these people are taking advantage of people’s ignorance and greed to get things done cheep. They just glue the two intact surfaces together. As a result the split in the ear lobe again shows after a few day. Its just not the failed repair. There are complications too. One of my young patient came with loss of both her ear lobules after application of glue. I am not sure who should teach such people a lesson. People themselves or Medical Council of India

Recently I was watching a movie in which the he**in was shown resenting her marriage by slitting her wrist. I think this kind of things should not be shown in movies. There are other better ways of protest. I see so many patients in my practice , especially girls, who tried to slit their wrist but end up giving multiple cuts on the left wrist and forearm. These cuts are not fatal but mentally traumatising in the future. They can not be made to disappear completely inspite of best efforts by a plastic surgeon. I would advise our young generation to refrain from doing so. Our film makers should also show some maturity in not showing such things.
