Humbled to be featured as a Cover Story in Asia Business Outlook's February 2026 edition on Top Bariatric Surgeons from India.

When I performed India's first laparoscopic bariatric surgery in 2000, obesity was still widely misunderstood — dismissed as a lifestyle choice rather than recognised for what it truly is: a complex metabolic disease. What followed over the next two and a half decades has been a deeply rewarding journey of building not just a surgical practice, but an entire ecosystem — training the next generation of surgeons, co-founding OSSI, developing national guidelines, and having the privilege of serving as Global President of IFSO.

None of this would have been possible without my incredible team, my patients who placed their trust in us, and the institutions that backed this vision.

Obesity is now one of India's fastest-growing health challenges. The work is far from over — and that is what continues to drive us.

Delighted to share that Max Institute of Laparoscopic, Robotic, Bariatric & GI Surgery has signed a strategic MoU with Intuitive Surgical.

Our journey has been guided by the trust of patients and the commitment of our teams—reflected in more than one lakh surgeries, four decades of laparoscopic practice, and five years of robotic surgery, including two world records in 2022.
