As President of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics, I warmly welcome and commend the Hon’ble Supreme Court for recognizing menstrual health as an essential part of the Right to Life and Education. This decision sends a clear and powerful message that the health, dignity, and education of every girl child must be protected and prioritized. For too long, inadequate hygiene facilities and lack of access to sanitary products have silently affected school attendance, health, and overall well-being. This judgment confronts that challenge head on and provides a framework for meaningful change.

Menstrual hygiene is not only a health issue, it is a matter of dignity, safety, and equal opportunity. When schools provide safe and supportive environments, we do more than improve attendance, we empower girls to stay healthy, confident, and focused on building their future.

As pediatricians and child health professionals, we have a responsibility to ensure these guidelines are effectively implemented. Strong accountability, sustained action, and community engagement are critical to translating this judgment into real-life impact. Together, we can ensure that no girl is forced to compromise her health or education due to lack of basic facilities.

This is a landmark moment for gender justice, public health, and child rights, and it calls upon all of us, policymakers, educators, health professionals, and society at large, to act decisively.

Behind every strong child is a parent carrying invisible weight.
On Parental Mental Health Day, I want to remind every parent.
Taking care of your mind is not a luxury - it is a responsibility.

When parents are emotionally supported, children grow emotionally secure.

Pause. Breathe. Choose yourself - not away from your family, but for your family.

What if the strongest defense system in your child’s body isn’t the lungs or nose?

There’s one organ silently controlling immunity, growth and recovery.

Most parents overlook it. Don’t be one of them. Watch now.

I salute this young boy. 💛
I met him 2.5 months ago when he came with constipation and was found to have fatty liver during routine investigations and was obese

We spoke at length about food habits, screen time, physical activity, and simple daily choices. What impressed me most was his mindset — he listened, understood, and decided to act.

When he returned today, he was fitter, more active, happier, and more confident. He reduced weight by 7 kgs , cut down screen time, said no to junk food, and followed healthy eating — even while staying in a hostel. His constipation improved, and so did his overall health.

To parents: fatty liver in children is becoming increasingly common and is often silent. If ignored, it can progress over the next two to three decades to serious liver disease like cirrhosis. But the good news is — early action works.

✅ Start conversations early
✅ Encourage movement every day.
✅ Limit screen time.
✅ Make healthy food a habit, not a punishment.

Your guidance today can protect your child’s liver — and life — tomorrow.

I hope this young boy becomes a messenger for adolescents across India, especially at a time when nearly 8–10% of our children and adolescents — almost 200 million — are overweight or obese.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri ji has also emphasized the importance of healthy eating, reducing fats, and limiting screen time in Mann Ki Baat. This child shows us that change is possible — early and effective.

Parents, your involvement makes all the difference.

It was a privilege to have Dr. Vinod Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, Government of India, address pediatricians at PEDICON 2026 in Kolkata. His insights on child health priorities for a Viksit Bharat were both inspiring and deeply thought-provoking.

He highlighted a critical reality > nearly one-third of children under five in India continue to face stunting and undernutrition, impacting the nation’s human capital. Global evidence is clear: investing in child nutrition is one of the most powerful investments a country can make, yielding lasting returns in productivity and economic growth.

As President of IAP, my focus over the past year has been firmly anchored in improving the nutritional and developmental outcomes of children. Together with IAPians nationwide, we developed a comprehensive nutrition-focused module, now being rolled out through 200+ workshops across India in 2026, empowering pediatricians to address malnutrition more effectively.

To strengthen this further, we launched digital platforms > IAP Digi for doctors and IAP Care for parents > offering evidence-based guidance on feeding practices and structured growth monitoring.

Grateful to work with a dedicated Executive Board and 50,000 pediatricians across the country as we collectively advance child health priorities > working toward a Viksit Bharat where every child not only survives, but truly thrives.
