Nutrifoods, more commonly known as coarse cereals, have traditionally been the main component of the food basket in India. Predominantly grown in the resource fragile agroclimatic regions of the country, these crops include Jowar, Ragi, Bajra and other small millets which are highly nutritious on account of their high fibre content, low sugar and gluten levels besides a host of minerals and other ingredients vital for human health. These cereals have been known for their rich nutrient contents and drought resistance quality. These are comparable and at times even better than wheat and rice in their calorific value.
