Diabetes in Children: Know the Signs, Act Early.
Diabetes can affect children of any age. Be alert if your child has excessive thirst, frequent urination, sudden weight loss, tiredness, or unexplained vomiting. These may be early signs of diabetes—or, in severe cases, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), a medical emergency ,with severe acid levels in blood.
When to be aware:
If your child is unwell, breathing rapidly, feeling unusually sleepy, or has fruity-smelling breath, seek medical care immediately.
What to do:
Do not delay. Visit the nearest hospital for urgent evaluation. Early treatment can prevent complications and save lives.
How to follow up:
Children diagnosed with diabetes need regular check-ups, glucose monitoring, and guidance from pediatricians and diabetes teams.
Supportive care:
Provide emotional support, maintain a healthy diet plan, encourage physical activity, and ensure timely medication. With proper care, children with diabetes can live active, confident, and healthy lives.
Let’s stay aware, act early, and protect our children. 💙
