The infant in this video is undergoing a Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening. It is an examination done for babies. Some of the indications include -

1. Newborn and premature ( born before their due date )
2. Have been admitted to ICU
3. Low birthweight
4. Oxygen therapy
5. Breathing difficulties in new born

ROP affects the blood vessels of the developing eyes and can lead to loss of vision if not diagnosed and treated properly.

How is a basic eye check up done ?

We register each patient in an electronic medical record system, which saves the patient information for his future visits. also saves all the necessary data.

Each patient undergoes a standardised vision testing. Vision testing is the first of the many screenings tests done.

Tonometry is performed to check the pressure of both the eyes. It helps in detection of certain diseases.

Auto refracto meter is an instrument which calculate the rough power of the eye and helps the doctor to fine tune the prescription of glasses

And finally, the doctor check the eye thoroughly from the anterior part of the eye to the most posterior part of the eye and gives necessary medicines.

This constitutes a basic eye examination and is performed for all our patients.

Other than these, we offer specialised tests for various parts of the eye.

It can cause loss of central vision. We can give sight to such patients by performing a retina surgery. A highly complex step of peeling an extremely thin layer over the retina is done to facilitate closure of hole. It not only restores vision but gives patient a better quality of life. Dr. Shrinath is the first ophthalmologist in the city of Etawah who started his practice in 1969, in his parent's house. With the rising influx of patients with each passing year, he eventually moved to Civil Lines in 1981 and established Dr. Shivnath Memorial Eye Centre.

He was the first in the city to implant an intraocular lens after cataract surgery. Dr. Shobhit joined him in 2013 and since then, the centre has expanded its services manifolds and now includes cataract and refractive services ( removal of glasses ), glaucoma services, corneal transplantation, and retina services. Dr. Shobhit is now joined by his wife, Dr. Sonal, who heads retina services
