Why Heart Attacks in Young Indians Are Rising Fast
In recent years, India has witnessed a worrying surge in heart attacks among people under 40. Once considered a disease of the elderly, heart problems are now increasingly striking young professionals and even those in their 20s and 30s. The main reasons are lifestyle-related—high stress, poor sleep, unhealthy diets, smoking, alcohol, and lack of physical activity. Urban work culture, long hours, and constant digital stress have made matters worse.
Additionally, many young Indians have a genetic predisposition to heart disease, which, when combined with modern habits, increases the risk dramatically. Rising obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol—often undiagnosed—are silent contributors. The easy availability of junk food and minimal awareness about preventive health only add fuel to the fire.
The good news is that most heart attacks in young people are preventable. Regular exercise, balanced eating, stress management, avoiding to***co, and routine health check-ups can make a huge difference. It’s time young Indians start prioritizing their heart health—because prevention today can mean a longer, healthier tomorrow.
