Many people believe that once blood pressure (BP) tablets are started, they can be stopped later and the condition will disappear. In this video, Dr. Nathani Srikanth explains the truth about hypertension treatment and clears common myths.
✔ Primary Hypertension:
In most cases, BP tablets are needed long-term. The medicines help control blood pressure, but stopping them without medical advice can be dangerous.
✔ Secondary Hypertension:
In some situations, if the underlying cause is identified and properly treated, blood pressure may come under control, and medicines may be reduced or stopped only after a doctor’s examination.
⚠ Never stop BP tablets suddenly.
Abruptly stopping BP medicines can cause rebound hypertension, where blood pressure suddenly rises from normal levels to 170–200 mmHg or more.
This sudden spike can result in:
-Heart attack
-Heart failure
-Paralysis (stroke)
-Hemorrhagic stroke (brain bleed)
Many life-threatening strokes occur due to stopping BP medicines without medical advice.
👉 Always take BP tablets regularly and consult your doctor before making any changes.
If medicines run out, consult a nearby physician and continue treatment.
