In this video, Dr. Sindhu Kosaraju, Fertility Specialist and Gynecologist in Guntur at Sasya Fertility Centre, shares the essential precautions every mother should follow after a normal delivery.
Soon after delivery, mothers usually stay under observation for about 24 hours. If there are no complications, they are safely discharged. Once you go home, you can start light exercises—there is no need to wait for weeks. Gentle movement supports recovery, but adequate rest is equally important, as it plays a major role in healing.
Breastfeeding is one of the most important aspects during this phase. Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months, and new mothers should ensure proper latching and feeding positions.
Bleeding patterns also need attention.
• First 3–4 days: bleeding may be slightly heavy
• After that: it gradually reduces
• Duration: spotting or mild bleeding may continue for 20 days to 1 month, which is normal
However, if you experience excessive or sudden heavy bleeding, you should consult a gynecologist immediately.
