😷🧠 Do you feel dizzy or faint after severe coughing?
It may NOT be weakness — it could be COUGH SYNCOPE.

Cough syncope happens when forceful or repeated coughing suddenly reduces blood flow to the brain, causing dizziness or brief loss of consciousness.

✨ Dr Neeraja explains why this happens and when you must be careful.

⚠️ Who is at higher risk?

• Chronic cough sufferers
• Smokers
• Asthma / COPD patients
• Obesity
• Elderly people
• People with heart or nerve conditions

🚨 Do NOT ignore if you notice:

• Dizziness after coughing
• Blackouts
• Falling episodes
• Head injury after cough
• Repeated fainting

💡 Cough syncope is treatable — but only if the cause is identified early.

📚😴 Exams are important — but sleep is MORE important than you think.

Many students stay awake all night before exams, believing it helps them score better.
In reality, lack of sleep reduces memory, concentration, speed, and reasoning — and most students underperform the next day.

✨ Dr Neeraja explains:
• Sleep helps the brain store what you studied
• Without sleep, revision doesn’t convert into memory
• Poor sleep increases anxiety & exam stress
• One sleepless night can reduce performance significantly

🧠 Healthy exam-time sleep tips:
• Sleep at least 7–9 hours
• Revise early, not overnight
• Avoid screens before bed
• Trust your preparation
• Calm mind = better performance

💡 Studying is important — but sleeping well is what allows the brain to perform.

🦶 Diabetes can silently damage your feet — don’t wait until it’s too late.

Many diabetic patients ignore small cuts, cracks, or numbness in the feet.
But poor sugar control damages nerves and blood circulation, making the feet highly vulnerable to infections, ulcers, and even amputations.

✨ Dr Neeraja explains why foot care is critical in diabetes and how simple daily habits can prevent major complications.

🧼 Daily Diabetic Foot Care Tips:

• Wash feet daily with lukewarm water
• Dry well between toes
• Moisturise (avoid between toes)
• Never walk barefoot — especially at temples
• Check feet daily for cuts or cracks
• Trim nails carefully
• Wear soft, well-fitting footwear
• Consult a doctor immediately for any wound

💡 Protect your feet today to stay independent tomorrow.

🧠 A reality check from Dr Neeraja’s medical rounds…

During hospital rounds, Dr Neeraja noticed something surprising 👇
Many elderly patients could bend, squat, and do daily activities comfortably, while younger adults struggle with stiffness, back pain, and reduced flexibility.

Why?

Earlier generations stayed fit naturally —
🚜 farm work
🚶‍♂️ walking long distances
🧎 squatting & bending throughout the day

Today’s generation?
💺 long sitting hours
📱 screens
🏋️‍♀️ just 30–45 minutes of exercise
❌ very little movement the rest of the day

✨ Key takeaway:
45 minutes of exercise cannot compensate for 8–10 hours of sitting.

✨ What should we do?
• Move frequently during the day
• Reduce prolonged sitting
• Walk more, bend more
• Stretch often
• Focus on functional movement, not just gym workouts
• Sleep well for nerve & muscle recovery

💡 Fitness is not about age — it’s about how you live every day.

Swallowing is controlled by complex brain and nerve pathways.
When these nerves weaken, signals to the throat and food pipe become slow or absent, causing dysphagia (swallowing difficulty).

✨ Warning signs that suggest a neurological cause:
• Coughing or choking while eating
• Food getting stuck in throat
• Change in voice after swallowing
• Repeated chest infections
• Difficulty swallowing even water
• Sudden swallowing problems after stroke

✨ Possible nerve-related causes:
Stroke • Parkinson’s • Motor neuron disease • Nerve palsy • GBS • Brainstem issues

💡 Ignoring dysphagia can lead to aspiration, pneumonia, weight loss & severe complications.

📌 When to consult a neurologist?
If swallowing difficulty appears suddenly, worsens, or causes choking — get evaluated immediately.

🧠 Do fits (epilepsy) medicines have side effects? Yes — but stopping them suddenly is FAR more dangerous.

Anti-epileptic medicines protect the brain from uncontrolled electrical activity.
Side effects can happen initially, but your neurologist adjusts the dose to suit your body.

✨ Important advice by Dr Neeraja:
• Don’t stop fits medicine suddenly
• Don’t change dosage on your own
• Don’t self-medicate using Google/YouTube
• Review regularly with your neurologist
• Follow personalised treatment

Stopping medicines abruptly can cause:
❗Major seizures
❗Continuous fits (status epilepticus)
❗Accidents & injuries
❗Long-term brain damage

💡 Right treatment saves life. Always follow your doctor’s guidance.

🧠 Is paralysis hereditary?
Many people fear that if a parent had a stroke or paralysis, the children will also get it — but that is NOT true in most cases.

Paralysis usually happens due to:
• uncontrolled BP
• diabetes
• heart problems
• high cholesterol
• smoking
• obesity
• lifestyle factors
• clot or bleeding in the brain

Only rare genetic conditions contribute — but these are not common.

✨ Important Advice by Dr Neeraja:
• Control BP + sugar
• Exercise regularly
• Avoid smoking & alcohol
• Treat heart issues on time
• Recognise warning signs early

💡 Paralysis is preventable — hereditary fear should not delay treatment.

🫀 BP (Blood Pressure) is a SILENT killer.
Many people take tablets only when they “feel” their BP is high — but hypertension shows no symptoms until major damage is done.

❗Stroke
❗Heart attack
❗Kidney failure
❗Vision loss
❗Memory decline

All of these can happen silently when BP is not controlled with regular medication.

✨ Important Advice by Dr Neeraja:
• BP medicines must be taken daily, not only during episodes
• Never adjust dosage on your own
• Monitor BP every week
• Maintain low-salt diet & hydration
• Lifestyle + medicines = long, healthy life

💡 Controlling BP today protects your brain, heart, and kidneys for life.

🧠 Migraine patients — did you know some common medicines can actually make your headaches WORSE?
Especially 21-day hormonal pills, self-medicated painkillers, and random OTC tablets.

These can trigger severe attacks, cause rebound headaches, and in some cases increase stroke risk in patients with migraine with aura.

✨ Important Advice by Dr Neeraja:
• Don’t use hormonal pills without medical guidance
• Avoid random painkillers
• Never self-medicate
• Migraine needs personalised treatment, not general suggestions
• A neurologist decides the right dose + right timing for you

💡 Your brain is sensitive — treat it with care.

🧠 What is a Nerve Conduction Test (NCS)? Should you fear the electrodes?
Most patients worry when they hear the word “electrical test”… but NCS is safe, simple and essential for diagnosing nerve problems.

✨ Why it’s done:
• Numbness / tingling
• Burning sensation
• Sciatica
• Diabetes-related nerve issues
• Weakness in hands & legs
• Suspected nerve injury

✨ How it works:
Small electrical signals check how well your nerves communicate.
No damage. No danger. Mild discomfort only for a few seconds.

💡 Early diagnosis = Better recovery.
Don’t avoid tests that can protect your nerves.

💪 After 30 — Fitness Isn’t Optional, It’s Essential!

👩‍⚕️ Dr. Neeraja shares an important reminder:
After the age of 30, our muscles degenerate by 1% every year, and this doesn’t just affect your body — it affects your brain, focus, and energy too. 🧠

Here’s how to stay strong and sharp:
✅ Move daily — even 30 minutes helps your brain.
😴 Sleep well — your neurons recover during rest.
🥗 Eat smart — protein, greens, and hydration matter.
🧘 Stay calm — stress is your brain’s biggest enemy.

💡 A strong body supports a healthy brain.
Start now — for a fit future, both physically and mentally. 🌿
