Media India Centre for Research & Development MICRD works on Media research Media India Centre for Research and Development (MICRD) was founded by Mr. Mr. Vajpeyi died in February 2008 at the age of 85. B.G.

Upendra Vajpeyi with the avowed objective of helping journalists sharpen their skills and involve them in research. Vajpeyi was a freedom fighter – he spent three years in jail for conspiring to bomb the Military accounts office at Meerut where he worked. Soon after leaving jail just before the dawn of independence he became a journalist, following in the footsteps of his father Pandit Ambika Prasad Vajpeyi , who is acknowledged as the father of Hindi journalism and creator of Hindi grammar. After two decades in Lucknow as a correspondent of Hindi dailies, Mr. Vajpeyi switched to English journalism, joining the Hindustan Times in 1967. His two lasting creations are Press Enclave in Saket, New Delhi, and the National Media Centre in neighbouring Gurgaon. The two housing colonies are home to some 400 journalists and their families. A lecture is held every year in his memory on April 1, his birthday. Verghese, an eminent journalist and former colleague of Mr. Vajpeyi, delivered the lecture this year. We aim to hold the next lecture in Lucknow. MICRD.IN is edited by Rajendra Bajpai, who spent much of his life working for Reuters, Bloomberg and numerous other foreign newspapers and magazines. He has also contributed to Fortune, International Herald Tribune and Business Times of Singapore. Rajendra is Mr. Upendra Vajpeyi’s nephew.
