Earlier, IVF cycles were commonly associated with 8–12 days of multiple hormonal injections to stimulate the ovaries and retrieve a higher number of eggs. While this approach is still effective and widely used, reproductive medicine has evolved.
Today, Minimal Stimulation IVF (Mini IVF) is emerging as a more patient-friendly alternative in selected cases. This protocol uses lower doses of medication or shorter stimulation duration to gently encourage the ovaries to produce fewer but potentially good-quality eggs.
But here’s the important part - it is not suitable for everyone.
Minimal stimulation IVF may be considered for:
▫️ Women with low ovarian reserve
▫️ Patients who did not respond well to high-dose stimulation
▫️ Women at risk of OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome)
▫️ Those preferring a lower medication approach
However, for some patients, especially those where embryo numbers are crucial, conventional stimulation may still be the better option.
