Heart Disease Linked To Poor Oral Health

Poor dental health can be a result of skipping your daily routine of brushing and flossing the teeth. Poor oral health together with other risk factors can not only give you a yellow and unpleasant smile, but it can also lead to many serious oral and other health conditions, including heart disease.

Bacteria in your mouth can enter the bloodstream, attaching to the fatty plaques in the arteries. This causes swelling or inflammation of the plaques. If the plaque bursts and results in the formation of a blood clot, you can experience a stroke or heart attack.

In order to prevent heart disease, it is very important to maintain a high standard of dental hygiene. A good oral hygiene routine includes:

- Brushing the teeth at least twice daily.
- Flossing the teeth on a regular basis.
- Replacing toothbrushes every 3 to 4 months.
- Making regular appointments with a dentist every 6 months
