Cancer is a dreaded word. The world comes crashing down, not only for the patient but also for the family once this word is pronounced in the doctor's chamber. In the last 20 years, India has seen massive advances in the field of cancer treatment. More than 50 hospitals in the country can now boast of world class infrastructure for the treatment of cancer. PET CT Scan, Linear Accelerator, Digital Mammography, Brachytherapy etc have given the requisite arsenal to the Indian doctors for successful treatment of all kinds of cancers. Bone Cancer is not a very common kind of cancer and therefore very few doctors dare to venture in the field of Ortho Onco Surgery. Most of the orthopaedic surgeons prefer to stay in Trauma Surgery, Joint Replacement and Arthroscopic Surgery. Dr. JS Virk is one such orthopaedic surgeon who took the bold decision of leaving the lucrative conventional orthopaedics and venture in the domain of Bone Cancer Surgery. Dr. Virk did fellowship in Ortho Onco Surgery from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, New Delhi and followed it with another fellowship in reconstructive surgery from Singapore General Hospital. Dr Virk is currently associated with Paras Cancer Institute, Panchkula and is doing Bone Cancer Surgery with special focus on Limb Salvage Surgery.
