On this day (December 11) in 1843, Robert Koch, the Father of Modern Bacteriology was born in Germany.

Robert Koch is known for identifying the specific causative agents of tuberculosis, cholera and anthrax.
He not only improved laboratory technologies and techniques in the field of microbiology but also gave experimental support for the concept of infectious diseases.

One of the major contributions of Robert Koch is the creation of Koch's postulates, a series of four generalized principles linking specific microorganisms to specific diseases that today remain the "gold standard" in medical microbiology.

In 1905, Koch received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his groundbreaking contributions towards the field of microbiology and for research on tuberculosis in particular.
