With Major Achievements in Supercritical Sets, BHEL Haridwar completes a successful FY 2016-17
Haridwar, 31 May: The Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant at Haridwar, one of the major manufacturing units of the technology giant BHEL, has attained some major achievements during the financial year 2016-17.
During the year, HEEP accomplished some major achievements towards manufacturing of supercritical thermal sets. For the first time, a total of 17 supercritical turbine modules, 5 supercritical generators and 17 supercritical exciters were successfully manufactured and dispatched in a single year. This includes 3 generators of highest rating of 800 MW.
Last year, BHEL Haridwar manufactured power equipment made a capacity addition of 6095 MW to the national power grid. The indigenously manufactured second unit of 2x800 MW for Yeramarus Thermal Power Station, Raichur (Karnataka) was successfully commissioned. For the first time, Double Flow Seal Oil Unit for 800 MW Gadarwara project was also successfully manufactured and dispatched.
Despite difficult business environment last year, HEEP delivered satisfactory results, with a turnover of Rs. 3074 crores and a PBT of Rs. 136 crores. On the physical performance front, 41 turbine modules totaling 4989 MW, 9 Turbo Generators, 4 TG rotors and 2 TG stators of different ratings worth 7063 MW, 2 Condensers and 3 Naval Guns were manufactured during the year. In spite of stiff global competition and prevailing difficulties in power sector, BHEL has maintained its goodwill in the market. This is evident from the fact that HEEP received the largest ever export order for setting up 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) Maitree Super Thermal Power Project in Bangladesh.
The BHEL unit at Haridwar has been equally conscious about its commitment in providing latest, state-of-the-art technology to its esteemed customers. During the year, an all-time high 60 IPR applications, including 33 patents and 27 copyrights, were registered. For the first time 800 MW condenser with innovative in-house tube layout resulting in reduced height of the condenser was also successfully designed. Further, transportation of 800 MW TG Stators by Girder Bridge technology has been established, leading to increased safety and substantial reduction in costs.
BHEL Haridwar is also dedicated to fulfilling its responsibility towards the society with a sense of commitment and passion. The construction of a “Cancer Care Hospice” for the care of terminally ill cancer patients has been completed and handed over for operation. 25 Bio Digester Toilet Clusters and Drinking Water units are being established along the banks of river Ganga in Haridwar & Rishikesh. Also, many toilets have been constructed for the school children of government schools of nearby villages.
The Pollution Control Research Institute of BHEL Haridwar was engaged by Uttarakhand Environment Protection & Pollution Control Board for preparation of Action Plan for Air Pollution Control of Dehradun and Haridwar cities, which has been successfully completed and submitted.
The General Manager (Incharge) of HEEP unit, Shri Sanjay Gulati, while announcing the results of the unit during 2016-17, dedicated the achievements to the sincere efforts of all employees, support of all unions & associations, and the guidance of the BHEL CMD & Board of Directors. Quoting the CMD, Shri Gulati said, “the inspirational words of Shri Sobti, Yes we can and we will, shall definitely lead us to the glorious days once again”.
He said our dedicated and competent employees are our real strength, and are continuously bringing laurels for the company. This year, six employees of HEEP have brought admirations by winning the Prime Minister Shram Awards for the Performance Year 2015. Also, three teams consisting of 15 HEEP employees have won the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puruskar. The number of Vishwakarma awardees from HEEP Haridwar has now gone up to 223, which is the highest for any public sector.
Commenting on the demanding business scenario, Shri Gulati said the current year and the coming years are very challenging for BHEL, but we are confident that with the ongoing momentum - and with the skill, commitment & motivation of our employees - we will surely meet the expectations of our customers and the nation as a whole.
