✨Asana – The Gateway Into Yoga✨

For most of us, yoga begins with Asana — the physical practice.

It’s the part of yoga that builds strength, flexibility and mobility.
It’s also often the doorway through which many people discover the practice.

But interestingly, in the traditional yogic system, Asana is the third limb of yoga.

In the Yoga Sutras, Asana is described as:

“Sthira Sukham Asanam”
A posture that is steady and comfortable.

The purpose of Asana was not to perform increasingly complex poses, but to prepare the body to sit with stability and ease, allowing the mind to become calm and focused.

Over time, through consistent practice, Asana develops:

• body awareness
• discipline
• presence
• connection between breath and movement

And these qualities naturally lead us toward the deeper limbs of yoga.

In many ways, Asana is the gateway — the place where many of us begin, and from where the practice can slowly deepen.

🧘‍♀️In the next reel, we’ll explore Pranayama — the fourth limb of yoga and the practice of working with the breath.
