অনেকেই লক্ষ্য করেছেন, রক্ত পরীক্ষার জন্য নমুনা নেওয়ার আগে হাতের উপরের দিকে একটি রাবার ব্যান্ড (টুনিকেট) বাঁধা হয়। এর ফলে শিরা কিছুটা ফুলে ওঠে এবং রক্ত সংগ্রহ করা সহজ হয়।

তবে টুনিকেট বেশি চাপ দিয়ে বা এক মিনিটের বেশি সময় ধরে বাঁধা থাকলে কিছু পরীক্ষার ফলাফলে পরিবর্তন আসতে পারে। বিশেষ করে প্রোটিন, ক্যালসিয়াম ও পটাশিয়াম পরীক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে এই বিষয়টি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তাই প্রয়োজনে টুনিকেট ব্যবহার করা হলেও সময়ের দিকে সতর্ক থাকা জরুরি।
