About its origin Dr. H.C.Allen says. "of doubtful origin, for years on the borderland as to its true classification, but probably a nosode or morbid product found in the belly of the spermwhale. It has many characteristics of intestinal or biliary concretions and has been considered to be of hepatic origin, probably a fatty excretion from its gall bladder" Dr. N.M Chowdhury says, "Ambergris is a fat like substance found in the intestines and among the excreta of the spermwhale". The oil of Amber i.e. Oleum Succinum should not be confounded with Ambergris.
Ambergris suitable to excitable, nervous children and thin, nervous patients. Extreme NERVOUS HYPER SENSITIVENESS. External numbness of whole body in the morning and weakness. Nervous bilious temperament. Thin, scrawny women. Adapted to hysterical subjects, or those suffering from spinal irritation, with convulsive cough, eructation, etc. Also for patients WEAKENED BY AGE or overwork, who are anaemic and sleepless. Great remedy for the aged, with impairment of all functions, weakness, coldness and NUMBNESS, usually of single parts, fingers, arms, etc. One-sided complaints call for it. MUSIC AGGRAVATES SYMPTOMS. Dudgeon used Syz. in the lower homœopathic attenuations with marked success, which has been repeated by many others but Hansen mentions as having been cured with Syz. "old ulcers of skin, probably of a diabetic foundation." And Dudgeon relates this case with complained of "prickly heat" all over upper part of body and arms.
