About last night when my friend contacted me for her father who is a severe TYPE 2 - DIABETIC and now having Neuropathy (Damage to nerves and feet getting numb)
Symptoms :
Blood glucose high (always 200+) !
Feet numb due to nerves damage!
High LDL, Low HDL!
High blood pressure
Medicines:
34iu insulin (morning) + 20 iu insulin (evening) +
Metformin 1000mg (a class of biguanide) +
Gliclazide (a class of Sulphonylureas) +
Statins (for lowering LDL levels) +
Blood pressure medicines !!!
Current diet :
Breakfast: 2 Roti + some dal
Snack: green tea
Lunch: 2/3 Roti + sabzi
Snack : Biscuit + Namkeen + Tea
Dinner : 2 roti + sabzi
So basically the doctor is just increasing medicines after medicine in order to reduce the
SYMPTOMS ...1st sugar medicines, then insulin, then more insulin, and now nerves medicines and LDL and BP medicines... No one has ever advised to sort the DIET - the root CAUSE!
The whole basis of Type 2 - Diabetes is
HYPERINSULINEMIA - the chronically excess secretion of insulin by the pancreas in order to drop the dangerous blood glucose which remain chronically high ...!!! The insulin is responsible for shuttling the excess glucose in cells (primarily muscles cells and then also liver and fat cells). When the muscle cells receptors (which are responsible for opening the door of the cell to allow glucose inside it) become resistant to insulin, the state is called INSULIN RESISTANCE, which is the starting point of type-2 diabetes.
And what do the doctors do?
1. Give a class of drugs (called Sulphonylureas) to force the pancreas to secrete more insulin along with metformin (a drug used to reduce insulin resistance)
2. Give insulin injections
3. Give more insulin injections
4. Give BP medicines (as normally it is accompanied by high BP)
5. Give the dangerous STATINS (Cholesterol lowering drugs)
All SYMPTOMATIC treatment!
Nobody addresses the root cause which is HIGH GLUCOSE levels due to BAD DIET... What can be done?
Reduce carbs (and Omega-6 fats) to reduce:
- > Blood glucose -> BP
- > Inflammation
- > Insulin resistance
Add : -> Exercise (specially weight training)
- > Omega3
- > Anti-oxidants, ALA, CoQ10
