Torn ear lobe is a common problem which occurs in women following chronic sagging and stretching of the ear piercing and wearing of heavy ear rings. Torn ear lobe can also occur due to sudden trauma which can occur accidentally. Age and loss of fat volume can also cause thinning of the ear lobule which can compound and hasten the condition. Torn ear lobe can be partial or complete.
Ear lobe repair is usually done by a qualified plastic surgeon under local anesthesia after assessment. The type of repair depends on whether the tear is partial, near total or complete.
Additional fat grafting or fillers can be included in the armamentarium of the treatment to provide additional strength and texture to the ear lobe.
