Medical Camp for Thalassemia-Affected Children at KGH, Visakhapatnam

A major medical camp for Thalassemia-affected children was successfully organized at King George Hospital (KGH), Visakhapatnam, under the aegis of Andhra Medical College, in collaboration with Sushena Health Foundation and Saptha Foundation.

This initiative marked a significant step toward providing life-saving care and hope to children battling genetic blood disorders.

Key Highlights of the Camp

🔹 Wide Participation:
Around 150 beneficiaries, including children and adults, attended the camp. Families traveled from Araku, Paderu, Anakapalle, Parvathipuram, Saluru, Bobbili, Narsipatnam, Rajahmundry, Tuni, Samalkot, and even from Odisha, highlighting the urgent need for such specialized services.

🔹 Free HLA Typing Tests:
The core focus of the camp was conducting HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) Typing, a crucial genetic test required for Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).
Though this test normally costs around ₹10,000, it was provided completely free of cost to all beneficiaries.

🔹 International Support:
The free HLA typing was made possible through the generous support of DKMS, Germany, whose sponsorship enabled equitable access to this critical diagnostic service.

🔹 Government Collaboration:
The RBSK (Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram) and the District Medical and Health Office (DMHO) played a pivotal role in mobilizing children and families, ensuring the smooth ex*****on and success of the camp.

🔹 Advanced Medical Expertise:
Expert doctors from MGM (Seven Hills Hospital) are leading and performing these highly specialized Bone Marrow Transplant surgeries, offering renewed hope for children with Thalassemia and Leukemia.

Understanding HLA Typing & Bone Marrow Transplant

HLA typing is a genetic matching test, similar to blood grouping, used to identify suitable bone marrow donors—usually parents or close relatives.
When a suitable match is found, a Bone Marrow Transplant can be performed, offering a potential cure for life-threatening conditions such as Thalassemia and Leukemia.

Financial Support & Collective Contributions

The cost of Bone Marrow Transplant surgeries is substantial, but strong partnerships are making treatment accessible:

🔹 Government Support:
The Government is providing a grant of ₹12 Lakhs per surgery.

🔹 Sushena Health Foundation’s Commitment:
To further reduce the financial burden on families, Sushena Health Foundation has pledged ₹2 Lakhs per surgery, reinforcing its commitment to child health and lifesaving interventions.

A Collective Effort of Hope

The unwavering dedication of Mr. Sarath, Saptha Foundation, KGH social workers, medical teams, and all collaborating partners is truly commendable.
Together, they are transforming a challenging medical journey into one filled with hope, dignity, and the promise of a healthier future for Thalassemia-affected children.

Sushena Health Foundation and Dhaatri Mother's Milk Bank extend our proudest congratulations to Dr. Armida Fernandez (Founder Trustee, SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action) & Former Dean, Sion Hospital) on being conferred the prestigious Padma Shri by the Government of India.

Why she is our inspiration: In 1989, Dr. Armida established Asia’s First Human Milk Bank at Sion Hospital, Mumbai. At a time when the concept was unknown, she paved the way for "Liquid Gold" to save the lives of vulnerable preterm babies across the nation.

Every drop of donor milk collected in India today flows through the path she created. She is the torchbearer who taught us that "Breast milk is not just food; it is the right of every newborn."

Thank you, Ma'am, for your vision, your service, and for inspiring organizations like ours to serve. This recognition is a victory for every child whose life was saved by human milk.

The movement to ensure "Every Drop Counts" is crossing state borders.

On Saturday, 10th January 2026, we had the distinct honour of hosting a delegation from SRM Medical College, Trichy, at our Sushena Office and Dhaatri Mother’s Milk Bank & CLMC, Niloufer Hospital.

We were pleased to welcome:

Shri Edukondalu garu – Superintendent, SRM Medical College
Dr. Muthuvel garu – Pediatrician

The purpose of their visit marks an exciting step forward:
Collaborating with Sushena Health Foundation to establish a Comprehensive Lactation Management Centre (CLMC) at SRM Medical College.

Building a milk bank is not just about installing freezers; it is about installing protocols.

Our Director of Operations, Sri Kasinaadh Lakkaraju garu, along with our Medical Officer, Dr. Sri Bhavishya Dandibhotla, took the visiting team through the rigorous "vein-to-vein" operations of the milk bank. They covered the complete safety protocols and quality assurance procedures that ensure vulnerable newborns receive nothing but the safest donor human milk.

It was a day of deep knowledge exchange. Seeing institutions like SRM Medical College step forward to embrace this cause reinforces our shared commitment to strengthening newborn care across the country.

We look forward to seeing this new CLMC come to life in Trichy.

As we welcome New Year 2026, Sushena Health Foundation reflects with gratitude on 2025—a year defined by meaningful collaboration and collective impact.

Together with our partners and stakeholders, we addressed persistent challenges across the maternal continuum of care—pre-natal, antenatal, and post-natal—along with newborn, child health, and nutrition. Our shared efforts focused on strengthening systems and delivering evidence-informed interventions that improved access to quality care for mothers, newborns, pre-term babies, and vulnerable families across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and India.

Throughout the year, our work contributed to measurable improvements in MNCH and nutrition services, while reinforcing health system strengthening and equity-driven approaches—advancing our collective journey towards Universal Health Coverage.

As we step into 2026, Sushena Health Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to deepening implementation, strengthening partnerships, and promoting resilient and sustainable service delivery models in Maternal and Newborn Health & Nutrition.

Together, let us continue striving for lasting health outcomes and healthier futures.

✨ Wishing you a happy, healthy, and successful New Year.

🗓️ Years Change, But the Window of Opportunity Remains the Same.

As we turn the page to 2026, our calendars reset. New goals are set, and new resolutions are made.

But for a newborn arriving today, the clock that matters most isn't the one on the wall—it’s the biological clock of the First 1000 Days.

Why ECD Remains Our "North Star" at Sushena

Despite the changing years, our core focus at Sushena Health Foundation remains unshakable. Why? Because the science of the developing brain doesn't change:

The 86 Billion Neuron Blueprint: A child is born with nearly all the neurons they will ever have.

The Construction Zone: In these first few years, the brain forms connections at an astounding rate—up to 1 million new neural connections per second.

The "Highways" of Life: By age 3, the brain has reached 80% of its adult size. The quality of nutrition, love, and stimulation a child receives now literally builds the "highways" for their future intelligence, emotional health, and resilience.

Our Commitment for 2026

We cannot pause. We cannot wait. Because for a child, "later" is too late.
This year, we renew our vow to protect this critical window through:

Universal Lactation Care: Expanding our Dhaatri Milk Bank network to ensure every vulnerable infant has access to the perfect brain-building food—Mother's Milk.

Maternal Nutrition: Ensuring mothers are nourished so their babies can thrive.
Holistic Development: Advocating for the comprehensive physical and emotional growth that prevents future healthcare burdens.

The year has changed, but our mission hasn't. Here’s to nurturing the next generation of 86 billion brilliant minds.

As we step into a new year, we renew our commitment to care, compassion, and healthier beginnings for every mother and every newborn.

At Sushena Health Foundation, we believe that when mothers are supported, children thrive—and communities grow stronger. 🌸🤱

🌟 May this New Year bring hope, protection, nourishment, and wellness to families across India.
Together, let us continue building a future where every mother and child is cared for.

🌟 A Moment of Pride for the Sushena Family! 🌟

We are thrilled to congratulate our General Secretary, Shri Dr Santhosh Kumar Kraleti, on being entrusted with two prestigious national-level responsibilities by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

His expertise and integrity have been recognized once again with these significant appointments:

âś… Member, Medical Advisory Council (MAC) of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
âś… Member, Fee Fixation Committee for the State of Bihar (Re-appointed).

Dr. Santosh’s work goes to the very heart of the medical education ecosystem in India. As he continues his critical work in Bihar, his focus remains on a delicate but essential mission: balancing high educational quality with affordability and equity for students.

At Sushena, we witness his dedication to public service every day. It is this same visionary leadership and "intense due diligence" that drives our mission to support vulnerable newborns.

Congratulations, Sir! We are proud to see you shaping the future of medical education in India.

Empowering the Smallest Voices: A Special Visit to Niloufer Hospital.

On 25th December 2025, We were honored to host Sri Srikanth Gundavarapu (President) and Sri Arun Kankani (Executive Vice President) of Sewa International USA at our "Shrutham De Infants" center in Niloufer Hospital, Hyderabad.

Traveling all the way from Houston, Texas, these leaders witnessed firsthand the vital work being done at our comprehensive newborn follow-up clinic and early child development center.

The highlight of the visit was their heartfelt feedback: "You are giving a voice to those who are not able to speak." This resonance with our mission reminds us why early intervention is so critical for newborn success.

Key Takeaways:
• Strengthening the bond between Houston and Hyderabad through service.
• Focusing on early childhood development for high-risk newborns.
• A shared vision of selfless service (Sewa).

🇮🇳 Global Dialogues, Local Impact: Representing India’s Progress in Tokyo
We are incredibly proud of our Founder-Secretary, Dr Santhosh Kumar Kraleti, who recently represented India on a prestigious global platform at the International Seminar on Advancing Health Equities for Persons with Disabilities in Tokyo.

🌏 Showcasing India's Story

Dr. Santhosh addressed the forum on "The Progress in India’s Disability Sector over the Last Decade," sharing the significant strides our nation has made in policy, accessibility, and systemic inclusion. It was a moment of immense pride to see the global community recognize and applaud India's commitment to health equity.

🤝 Strategic Collaborations

A key highlight of the visit was the high-level dialogue with Dr. Mills from the WHO Asian Pacific Center of Collaboration (Disability Inclusion). These exchanges are vital for ensuring that our local initiatives align with global frameworks for universal accessibility.

🏥 From Tokyo to India: Bridging the Gap

Beyond the seminar, the delegation visited the National Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disability (NRCCD) in Tokyo.

For Sushena Health Foundation and the Dhaatri Mothers Milk Bank network, this was a study mission. We are actively working to translate their world-class protocols for early intervention and rehabilitation into actionable solutions for our own communities.

We are committed to "looking East" and bridging the gap between global best practices and national implementation. The work to build a more inclusive healthcare infrastructure continues!
