Not all IVF embryos are genetically healthy.

With Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), we can screen embryos for genetic problems before transfer to improve the chances of a healthy baby.

🔹 PGT-A – Detects abnormal chromosome numbers
🔹 PGT-SR – Finds structural changes in chromosomes
🔹 PGT-M – Identifies inherited single-gene disorders

By selecting healthy embryos, IVF success rates increase and the risk of genetic diseases decreases. 👶✨

A blastocyst is an embryo that has grown for about five days after fertilisation. At this stage, it reaches a more advanced structure with a fluid-filled cavity and distinct cell layers. This maturity gives it a better chance of attaching to the uterus successfully, which is why transfers on day 5 (blastocyst stage) are preferred in IVF for higher pregnancy rates.

Cryopreservation in IVF allows eggs, s***m, or embryos to be safely frozen and stored for later use without losing their quality. Whether it’s for medical reasons, delayed family planning or preserving extra embryos after an IVF cycle, this technique gives couples more flexibility over their reproductive journey.

Many couples undergoing IVF often wish for twins — and yes, it is possible, but not guaranteed.

When two embryos are transferred, the pregnancy success rate is around 50–60%, but even then, only 10% actually result in twins. With modern IVF techniques, doctors now prefer transferring just one embryo, which is safer for the mother and child. Interestingly, even a single embryo can occasionally naturally split into two, leading to identical twins!

So twins can occur in two ways:
• Single embryo → splits into two = Identical twins (same gender)
• Two embryos → grow separately = Twins (same or different gender)

Nature always has its surprises!

IVF is no longer just about making embryos and transferring them. The world of reproductive medicine has advanced far beyond!

From uterus transplants and surrogacy to futuristic concepts like gene editing and designer babies, science is constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in fertility care.

👉 Stay tuned as we break down each of these advancements in simple, understandable language!

Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is a screening test that can be done during IVF to check embryos for genetic or chromosomal problems before they are transferred. By selecting only healthy embryos, PGT helps reduce the chances of miscarriage, inherited disorders, and failed IVF cycles. It’s especially helpful for couples with a history of genetic conditions, repeated IVF failures, or advanced maternal age.

One of the biggest concerns among breast cancer survivors is — ‘Can I breastfeed after treatment?’

The answer is YES.
Breastfeeding is often possible from the unaffected breast, even after surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy. While milk secretion may be slightly reduced, feeding from the healthy breast is completely safe and beneficial.

Not only is breastfeeding good for the baby, it also helps reduce the future risk of breast cancer in the mother.

So don’t stop breastfeeding out of fear — with the right guidance, it is absolutely possible

Breast cancer during pregnancy — can treatment and pregnancy go together?

Yes. Even though it’s very rare (1 in 3000 pregnancies), treatment is still possible without stopping the pregnancy in most cases.

Here’s how it is usually managed:
• Surgery can be done soon after diagnosis
• Chemotherapy is given after the first 3 months of pregnancy
• Radiotherapy is postponed until after delivery

The main focus is to treat the cancer while protecting the baby.
The only challenge is late diagnosis, since pregnancy symptoms like breast tenderness or swelling can hide warning signs.

👉 If detected on time, both pregnancy and treatment can continue safely with the support of a multidisciplinary team.

Why is breast cancer increasing in young women?
Lifestyle plays a major role.

Risk increases with:
• Poor diet & obesity
• Lack of physical activity
• Stress, smoking, and alcohol

But studies show that 10–20% of risk can be reduced by:

✔️ Regular exercise
✔️ High-fiber fruits & balanced diet
✔️ Good sleep & low stress levels
✔️ Avoiding alcohol and smoking

For those with family history or BRCA1 / BRCA2 gene mutations, risk is higher — but genetic testing is available to detect it early.

Lifestyle + Awareness = Strongest protection.

Many women ask — “After breast cancer treatment, when is it safe to plan a pregnancy?”

Dr. Anuradha explains it clearly:

• Usually, pregnancy can be planned after 2 years of treatment • If you’re taking Tamoxifen / Letrozole, stop it for 3 months (washout period)

before trying

• Age is important — don’t delay more than needed

Motherhood is possible after cancer — just follow the right timeline.
