One day conference on Donation after circulatory death or DCD at FORTIS organised by Dr. Seth. In India we could do this donation where family has given consent in brain death and the cadaver has a cardiac arrest. We lose all organs in such situations but with DCD this can mean utilising kidneys and liver at least.

Mrs. Namita Kapoor was 52 years when she had stroke and became brain dead. Her relatives donated her organs in a hospital in Gurgoan. She donated her kidneys, liver and heart valves. Mrs. Kapoor’s brother in law died waiting for a liver transplant just a few years ago and the family was aware of the desperation of waiting for organs. According to her wishes her last rites were performed with her family beside her at her home in Jalandhar. Her husband while holding back the urge to break down inconsolably says, “She died early but she had a full life and lived completely. She gave so much in her death as well as she did while she was alive.”
