Children dentistry / Pediatric dentistry
Pediatric dentist also known as Pedodontists deals with treating children from birth through adolescence. One of the important aspects of children dentistry is child psychology as to create a friendly and fun atmosphere for their young patients to have a positive first experience to shape their future dental health.
Few common questions asked by many parents who need guidance to help their children develop good oral hygiene habits and get nutrition they need are answered by our expert pedodontist here below
At what age should I expect my child’s teeth to come in?
The order and timing of each tooth varies by each individual. Most children get their first tooth at around six (6) months, with all 20 of the baby teeth appearing by age three (3). At the age of six (6) years permanent teeth begin to appear and generally continue to come until age 21.
When should be my child’s first visit to the dentist?
The child’s first visit to the dentist should occur by 12 months of age. This will enable the dentist to evaluate your child’s dental health early and introduce you to proper oral hygiene and help you to identify if your child is at risk for baby tooth decay.
Are baby teeth really that important to my child?
Baby teeth or primary teeth or milk teeth are important for many reasons as they help your child speak clearly, chew naturally and they also aid in forming a path that permanent teeth can follow when they are ready to erupt.
How do I make my child’s diet safe for his teeth and prevent cavities?
Maintaining a balanced diet which includes fruits, vegetables, cereals, milk, dairy products, meat, fish, eggs limiting the servings of sugars and in-between snacking. Along with twice brushing of teeth with fluoride tooth paste and flossing of teeth once a day will prevent cavities.
How important are dental sealants and fluorides?
Sealants are adhesive coatings that are applied to surface of teeth to prevent tooth decay. Fluorides strengths tooth enamel and make teeth more resistant to decay.

BLEEDING GUMS??? – YOU MY BE DIABETIC!!
If you are suffering from bleeding gums or any gum problems there is high risk of you suffering from Diabetes.
There is increased risk of oral health problems in a diabetic person than a non diabetic.Periodontitis commonly known as gum disease is a very common problem in diabetic patients, gum problems and diabetes are in mutual relationship that not only diabetic are more susceptible to gums disease but even gum problems also have the potential to affect blood glucose levels and contribute to progression of diabetes.
Periodontitis is a condition in which gums are affected causing redness of gums, bleeding, swollen gums, gums pull away from teeth, making gaps in between teeth known as pockets. Severe gum problem will lead to infection of bone round the teeth, which will lead to loosening of teeth.
Diabetic person is more prone to gum problems or periodontitis than a non-diabetic is, as diabetic persons have decreased ability to fight against bacteria that easily allows bacteria to invade gums and cause infections.
Prevention like good blood glucose control, taking care of gums and visiting dentist on regular basis can prevent bleeding gums and other gum problems
Solutions for periodontitis in diabetic persons include deep cleaning at initial stage and flap or gums surgery at severe stage with controlled blood glucose levels and regular visits to dentist it can be controlled

Root canal therapy
Root canal therapy also known as endodontic therapy is a process in which the diseased, damaged or dead pulp (a network of blood and nerve cells) is removed from the canals of the root. Then the canals of the tooth are cleaned, shaped, and filled.
Pulp of the tooth is damaged due to many reasons and one of the major reasons for damage of pulp is carious tooth in which the infection has reached the pulp causing inflammation of pulp tissue leading to severe pain. The other common causes are cracked tooth, injury to a tooth or gum infection of a tooth.
Root canal can be done in single or multiple sittings depending on the situation of the infected tooth.
If the infected or dead pulp is left untreated then formation of pus will be seen at the root tip in jaw bone and abscess will be formed. Abscess will destroy the surrounding bone of the tooth causing severe pain and mobility (loosening) of the tooth.
In root canal the infected pulp is removed and the tooth is restored by cleaning, shaping and filling of the tooth using suitable restorative material. Root canal treated teeth become brittle and are more prone to facture as there is no vital pulp tissue in the tooth, hence after root canal treatment is done crown should be placed on the tooth to restore natural shape, appearance and prevent tooth from fracture.
Root canal treatment is instant pain relief treatment and best treatment to retain the original teeth. Root canal treated teeth with a crown functions as equal as your natural teeth.

Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry which deals with proper alignment of teeth. Overcrowded, spacing or irregular teeth, facial growth, malocclusion, and correction of bite are done in this treatment.
With the advancement in orthodontic treatment it’s not only for young’s but adults can also undergo orthodontic treatment to get proper aligned teeth.
There are types of orthodontic treatment which includes
Fixed braces
Removable braces
Invisible or lingual braces
Fixed braces
Fixed braces are two types 1. Metal braces 2. Clear or Ceramic braces
Young patients or patients who are conscious or who have discomfort wearing metal braces prefer clear or ceramic braces as they are far less visible. Colorful fixed braces are also available for youngsters to keep up with the latest trends in fashion.
Removable braces
Removable braces or appliance also known as conventional appliance can be removed or taken out by the patient. Removable appliance is generally used to correct minor problems such as bite correction and is often given to patients who still have primary teeth in place of permanent teeth. Removable braces cannot correct complex tooth movements. Single tooth movements or expanding of dental arch can be done by removable appliance.
Invisible or Lingual braces
Fixed braces placed behind the teeth which are not visible are called lingual or invisible braces. Patients who don’t want the braces to be seen go for lingual orthodontic treatment to make proper alignment of teeth.
Some of common causes for orthodontic treatment are protruding of upper teeth, irregular upper or lower teeth, spacing between upper or lower teeth, deep bite, reverse bite, open bite or cross bite and asymmetry of jaws.
