Glocal Innovation: A Conversation Between Rob van de Ven & Jyothi Bezawada, Youth4Jobs Foundation

Zero Project Conference India 2025 & CII-IBDN National Conference 2025
Lead Partner — Youth4Jobs Foundation

In an insightful discussion, Rob van de Ven and Jyothi Bezawada explored how global innovation can meaningfully support families and children across the neuro-diverse spectrum.

They introduced Felix, an assistive robot designed to understand and respond to human emotions. Felix can interpret how a child is feeling, maintain an emotional calendar, and record daily behavioural patterns.

This technology has shown promise for children with Down syndrome, autism, and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. By capturing emotional data, Felix empowers parents and caregivers to:

Understand their child’s emotional states more clearly
Identify challenges and strengths
Work on skill gaps
Support emotional regulation
Track progress over time

Rob also shared how this innovation, developed in the Netherlands, can be thoughtfully scaled for the Indian market, where the need for accessible, data-driven tools for families is significant.

This glocal conversation highlighted how technology, empathy, and data can come together to build stronger support systems for children and their families.

And Youth4Jobs together with The Zero Project promises to look at and support one global innovation every year.

Day 1 Recap Presented on Day 2 | Zero Project Conference India 2025 & CII-IBDN National Conference 2025

Lead Partner — Youth4Jobs Foundation

A vibrant visual recap of Day 1 was presented on Day 2 through a live graphic recording by Katrina GĂĽnther, Founder, Thinking Visual, in conversation with Robin Tim Weis, Director, International Affairs, Zero Project.

Graphic illustration is not just a creative summary tool — it’s an accessible form of communication that can also open exciting career pathways for persons with disabilities:

A visual medium that enables people with hearing or speech disabilities to express ideas powerfully.

A flexible career option for individuals with locomotor or chronic disabilities.

A tool that simplifies complex discussions into inclusive, easy-to-understand visuals for all audiences.

Katrina’s illustration brought the essence of Day 1 to life — capturing key insights, energy, and collaboration in a way that is both inclusive and memorable.

A meaningful start to Day 2, showing how creativity and accessibility can come together to drive inclusion.

Day 2 opened with an impactful Special Address by Manmeet Nanda, Additional Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

She spoke about India’s growing commitment to accessibility — from making railway stations barrier-free to expanding accessible digital portals, ISL-enabled learning tools, and new assistive technologies. She highlighted the momentum created under the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan, where organisations and innovators are pushing boundaries to make public spaces and digital ecosystems more inclusive.

She also emphasised the role of corporates in driving adoption of assistive technology and recognised Youth4Jobs for creating pathways to employment for persons with disabilities, helping bring them into the mainstream economy.

She left the room with two powerful reminders:
“People with disabilities don’t need sympathy — they need empathy and empowerment.”
“Rights must translate into opportunities.”

A resonant message as we move forward in building an inclusive India powered by collaboration, technology, and dignity.
