An ENT Emergency: Removing a Fish Bone from a Pregnant Patient!

A 30-year-old female patient came to us with a fish bone deeply lodged in her throat, causing pain and difficulty swallowing. The challenge? She was 8 months pregnant.

Aural Hematoma Summary
An Aural Hematoma is a collection of blood that pools beneath the skin of the outer ear (pinna), typically caused by blunt trauma or impact, common in contact sports.

The condition presents as a painful, swollen, and fluid-filled lump on the ear flap.

The most critical danger is that the pooled blood cuts off nutrients to the underlying cartilage. If not treated quickly, this can lead to the permanent cosmetic deformity known as "Cauliflower Ear."

Prompt medical treatment is essential. The procedure involves draining the accumulated blood (via aspiration or incision) and then applying firm, continuous compression (often using sutures or a bolster dressing) to ensure the skin and cartilage remain in contact, allowing the ear to heal flat and preventing long-term distortion.
