In a proud moment for Manipur, Dr. Thangjam Dhabali Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of the BABINA Group of Companies, has been honoured with the Life-Time Achievement Award 2025 by the Mylai Thiruvalluvar Tamil Sangam, Chennai, in association with IIIT Manipur.

Presented by Prof. N. Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, the award recognises Dr. Dhabali’s remarkable contributions as a doctor, entrepreneur, and promoter of healthcare, hospitality, and tourism in the region. Founder of the BABINA Group, he has built one of Northeast India’s most trusted networks of hospitals and diagnostic facilities, including a state-of-the-art cancer institute, creating over 1,250 jobs and expanding access to advanced healthcare.

Through the Classic Group of Hotels, Dr. Dhabali also pioneered Manipur’s modern hospitality sector, strengthened tourism, and championed cultural initiatives such as the Imphal Peace Museum, established in 2019 to promote peace and cross-cultural understanding. This honour reflects his enduring commitment to service, excellence, and the holistic development of society.

In Manipur, many still believe that only a government job guarantees stability, while private ventures are seen as uncertain and unstable. Dr. Thangjam Dhabali Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of BABINA Group, chose to defy that belief. In 1983, he left his secure position at RIMS to start a modest diagnostics lab with just a vision and determination. Over the next four decades, that small lab grew into a powerhouse of healthcare and hospitality, with NABL-accredited laboratory, a state-of-the-art cancer hospital, Classic Hospitality Training Institute and Manipur’s most prominent three-star and four-star hotels. Today, BABINA Group employs more than 1,250 people. With the BABINA Institute of Nursing and Manipur’s first five-star hotel under construction, Dr. Dhabali Singh continues to inspire, proving that courage and vision can redefine an entire economy.
