36 Hours That Mattered Most: Precision Care Behind His Second Innings | Manipal Hospital
When confronted with one of the most extensive and complex brain tumors, hope needed the backing of extraordinary expertise.
At Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road, a highly coordinated multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao, Program Lead – Skull Base Surgery, along with Dr. Sathwik R Shetty, Consultant – Neurosurgery; Dr. Srikanth V, Consultant – Plastic, Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery; Dr. Mayur Shetty, Consultant – Plastic Surgery; Dr. H S Murthy, HOD & Consultant – Anesthesiology; and Dr. Jalaja K R, Consultant – Anesthesiology, undertook an exceptionally complex 36-hour skull base surgery.
This was followed by a rare crossed facial nerve reconstruction, successfully restoring facial function while preserving the healthy side—an achievement that reflects the highest levels of precision and collaboration.
Today, the patient smiles, speaks, and steps confidently into life’s second innings.
Happy Makar Sankranti! May this festival of harvest and hope bring new beginnings, positive energy, and success into your life.
Wishing you and your family happiness, health, and prosperity.

36 Hours That Changed a Life: Where Precision Redefined His Second Innings | Manipal Hospital
When faced with one of the largest and most complex brain tumors, hope mattered as much as expertise.
At Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road, a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao, Program Lead - Skull Base Surgery, Dr. Sathwik R Shetty, Consultant - Neurosurgery, Dr. Srikanth V Consultant – Plastic Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Mayur Shetty, Consultant - Plastic Surgery, Dr. HS Murthy, HOD & Consultant - Anesthesiology and Dr. Jalaja K R Consultant - Anesthesiology performed a highly complex 36-hour skull base surgery, followed by a rare crossed facial nerve reconstruction, restoring function without affecting the healthy side of the face.
Today, the patient smiles, speaks, and begins life’s second innings with confidence. Because precision, teamwork, and compassion can change everything.
Master Joseph was brought to Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road with significant difficulty in breathing and persistent mouth breathing. On evaluation, Dr. Sampath Chandra found enlarged tonsils and adenoids— a common condition in early childhood that can affect breathing, sleep, and concentration if left untreated. X-ray findings confirmed adenoid hypertrophy along with tonsillar enlargement.
The child underwent a coblation adenotonsillectomy, a modern and minimally invasive procedure. Relief was immediate, and Master Joseph recovered completely. Post-surgery, he is breathing comfortably, concentrating better in school, and enjoying an improved quality of life. Dr. Sampath Chandra advises parents to consult an ENT specialist if children experience recurrent throat infections, mouth breathing, or breathing difficulty. At Manipal Hospital Old Airport Road, comprehensive ENT care is provided with advanced techniques and a dedicated expert team.
