VOICE QUALITY MATTERS-
Voice quality refers simply to the sound quality of a person's voice. Each person has a unique voice quality. Any laryngeal pathology that leads to physical changes in the voice production system influences the voice quality.

This is the case of a 26 year old male, who came with complains of hoarseness in voice since 2 years, and had history of voice abuse. On laryngoscopy, a large polyp was found on left vocal fold.
Microlaryngeal surgery was performed, and the large polyp was excised. The patient was satisfied and happy with improvement in his voice quality.

NASAL BONE FRACTURE - Trauma to nose is very painful and may easily fracture the small bones in nose causing deformity in shape of nose. Immediate visit to an ENT can help with quick diagnosis and immediate fracture reduction which prevents long term deformity of nose.

This is a case of young female who came to OPD with history of trauma one day ago, and complaint of nasal deformity after trauma. On examination there was severe external deviation of nose to right. On X-ray nasal bone fracture was diagnosed. Immediately the fracture reduction was done and patient went happily home with her nose back in shape and straight.

BATTERY CELLs can be DANGEROUS-
Hazardous substances like battery cells should be kept out of reach of children. If a battery cell is stuck in the food pipe, it leaks there and causes erosion and even perforation in the food pipe. This can even lead to life threatening circumstances. Thus, if a child ingests something hazardous like battery cell should immediately be taken to an expert, so that it can be removed before it causes damage.
A 1.5 year old male child ate the battery cell while playing with his toys, which got stuck in the upper part of food pipe (oesophagus). He had complains of vomiting after every meal and was brought to hospital after 10 days, the X ray was performed confirming the presence of battery cell (due to presence of double ring shadow) at the level of cricopharynx. Immediately the OT was planned and the cell was removed using rigid oesophagoscope. There was severe charring and erosion present as the battery had leaked till then. Ryles tube was placed and the child was kept nil by mouth. After 7 days of observation and full recovery the child was discharged.

Toddlers are prone to put anything in their mouth, nose or ear. They do this to explore the openings in the body. Parents should be very vigilant, and should educate the kids to not eat or insert anything in nose or ear.
This is the case of a 5 year old child who inserted a diamond stone in ear. Parents brought the child to the hospital where the stone was removed from the ear of the child.

CHICKEN BONE IN OESOPHAGUS -
It is common that when you take large bites, the food may get stuck in the food pipe. It is common with the hard food items eg. with chicken bone, fish bone, etc.
This was the case of a 45 yr male, who ate chicken meal 7 days ago, after which he had difficulty in swallowing and recurrent vomiting episodes. On performing CT scan, it was found that the chicken bone was stuck in middle of the foodpipe.
Rigid oesophagoscopy for chicken bone removal was performed and the Y- shaped bone of size 4*4 cm was removed from the middle of oesophagus ( at 33cm dist. from incissors).

TAMARIND SEED IN NOSE-
Toddlers are prone to put anything in their mouth, nose or ear. They do this to explore the openings in the body. Parents should be very vigilant, and should educate the kids to not eat or insert anything in nose or ear.
This is the case of a 3 year old child who inserted Tamarind seed (Imli ka beej) in nose. After 3-4 days the child complained of pain in nose and then was brought to the hospital where the seed of size 2.5+1.5 cm was removed from the nasal cavity.

Ear Drum- The Tympanic Membrane has a very important role in hearing mechanism. Any trauma to ear or infection may lead to perforation in the ear drum which affects the hearing capacity. The most common symptom to identify and such trauma is the discharging ear.
This is the case of a 23 year male with complains of dicharge from right ear since a year. On examination a large perforation was seen. The drum was repaired under microscopic vision using the cartilage graft one year ago. The patient is still doing well with good hearing from right ear.
