Just like when we find someone around us physically hurt, we reach for the first aid kit to first offer any kind of help we can in that situation. Of course we identify that we are not doctors/professionals but we still know the basics to help the person feel better in the moment.
Psychological First Aid (PFA) is a compassionate and supportive presence designed to mitigate acute distress and assess if there might be a need for continued mental health care.
Please note:
PFA is not therapy, diagnosis, or treatment. John Hopkin’s program has developed an acronym, RAPID, to help guide you through how can we provide a psychological first aid to manage distress.
Here our founder is explaining the model is very simple terms so that it can be used by anyone to help people in accidents, community violence, or personal crises (job loss, grief).
