The results of a major research on 15000 people came out the day before Diwali...done by the most trusted and respected Mayo Clinic. It had an interesting conclusion. It concluded that belly fat is twice as much riskier than the in any case 'high risk obesity'!

So basically people who have belly fat are twice more at risk of death compared to those who are obese over all. That means if someone is over all fat (that is his BMI is high) but his WHR (waist to hip ratio) is fine, he is -despite being in high risk category- better off than someone whose whr is high but who otherwise doesn't look obese or is even thin!

This is huge. It straight away establishes that obesity is dangerous but having a spare tyre around your waist more dangerous.

The obvious reason being suggested is that having a big belly increases the amount of fat inside the abdomen (visceral fat). This may then cause inflammation to the vital organs stored inside the abdomen, which possibly makes people vulnerable to chronic diseases. And the abdomen has obviously the most vital organs.

So guys don't relax if you apparently don't look fat. As long as you have a belly you cant be healthy and obviously can't look too aesthetic either with that tyre bulging out...

The solution of course is good eating habits and exercise. The only two ways of reducing it!! So start it right now. Diwali is over.

For those who don't know about WHR.. this is how to measure it!! :

To calculate your waist-to-hip ratio you need to:
*measure your hips
*measure your waist
*divide the waist number by the hip number

A ratio of 1.0 or more in men or 0.85 or more in women indicates you are carrying too much weight around your middle. This puts you at increased risk of diseases linked to obesity, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

As I just wrote, you can lose this excess belly fat through a combination of diet and exercise. You should avoid energy-rich/nutritionally poor goods, such as processed food and alcohol. Foods with plenty of fibre are a good alternative, as fibre can make you feel fuller with fewer calories..

Diwali is over. Get running and stop eating junk.

I will keep posting more on health n fitness often from now as its my passion... For quite a few years now I have been spending at least 2 hours a day reading up on health and fitness related researches. There are so many absolutely interesting and eye opening researches I keep coming across that I feel it's very important for the layman to know about them in order to live healthy and spend less on medical bills. I will thus be sharing these research findings with you all from time to time. Of course though I will keep quoting my reference points I would want my readers to please do their own research and talk to their trusted fitness expert/doctors before implementation of anything I post.

Hope it helps!!
