Habits I Gave Up As an Orthopaedic Doctor 🦴
Because experience teaches what textbooks don’t.
Over the years, treating patients with knee pain, back pain, joint damage, and sports injuries, one thing became very clear —
daily habits matter far more than people realise.
Here are a few habits I consciously gave up:
• Ignoring small pain — because early pain is often the body’s first warning sign
• Sitting for long hours without movement — joints are designed to move, not stay still
• Wearing poor or unsupportive footwear — a silent contributor to knee, hip & spine problems
• Skipping warm-up and stretching — most injuries develop slowly, they rarely happen suddenly
• Delaying rest and recovery — pushing through pain usually worsens joint damage
Your everyday choices shape your joint health over time.
Listen to your body early — before pain forces you to stop.
