Behavioural problems in children

This is not the new thing that has emerged recently but since long we know about different behavioural and social problems in children , Not talking about researches only but as such when we ask history from parents or grandparents than the grandparents say it was really easy to manage our children than

grand children and question arises why it is so and one of the answer to this at the top of list is virtual world.
It is very important to restrict screen time whether it’s television , laptops or mobile
So Attention please all parents say NO TO MOBILE ,
Give some time to your children , they will give you time when you are old.
Socialise , take them to parks , librarary etc

April month is celebrated as Autism Awareness Month

Why the need ? This is due to rising no. Of children with Autistic spectrum disorder , may due to environmental changes , more concern of parents apart from other causes and recently it is being said that it is like an epidemic .
This is rather a disease it is different way of understanding and learning , if earlier it is diagnosed better the child develops and learns hence the importance of early recognition by the parents and caregivers.
Some clues are
Decrease social interaction
Speech delay
May be a very silent child or may be hyperactivity
Repetition of sentences or action
Liking towards one thing more
Sometimes seems don’t listen sometimes seems listen

Delayed language is speech development, sometimes it seems if child listen and sometimes it seems if can not hearing, remains within himself, less social interaction .

This day is celebrated every year on 26 th march to create awareness regarding better available epilepsy management and also to eliminate stigma and fear about epilepsy.

International Epilepsy Day is celebrated every year on 2 nd week of february to raise awareness about epilepsy in society.
This year theme is " STIGMA".
Epilepsy is among one of the neurological impairment which has great social stigma. On repeated awareness, education, management and treatment of this can help in removing this epilepsy from group of social stigma.
Since last many years due to advancements in management of epilepsy it has significantly improved quality of life. Person with epilepsy can lead a near normal life.

Purple day is celebrated to create awareness about epilepsy. Always we emphasize and continue telling people epilepsy should not be a social taboo, the people living with epilepsy should not be discriminated with others. Let us join hands with them and go togather. Many epilepsies are treatable with all new medicines and newer technolgies. Some are difficult to treat and few are superrefractory. But at last hope of something good to happen and researches going on....

National epilepsy day
17 th November 2021

Today is National epilepsy day and the theme is to create awareness about it.

What are seizures or fits or in hindi Zatka...
These are abnormal outburst of electrical discharges from the brain leading to motor, sensory, psychological, autonomic manifestations in a person.

What is epilepsy?

When such above mentioned unprovoked seizures occurs two or more times it is known as epilepsy.

How one may present?

It can be in form of increase in tone of all 4 limbs, jerks or Uprolling of eyeballs, drooling or it can be abnormal sensations or simply looking still, sudden sweating, may be some abnormal or funny feeling in abdomen or just laughing and so many.

Any investigation needed?

Your doctor may advice you certain blood investigation.
Neuroimaging like CT Scan or MRI of brain
EEG (electroenephalogram)

Is it curable?

Yes many are totally curable, many not and some remain on prolonged therapy.

Tips for the patients

Punctuality in taking medicines and always to take doctor's advice

Life style modification.

Proper diet

Sleep hygiene.

Role of family and society?

Yes the utmost important. Needs lots of support.
Social stigma needs to be remove and full acceptence of such conditions.

Recurrent seizures or seizures not getting controlled despite of medications

There can be many reasons to it and one of the important cause which will be discussed is due to congenital malformation of brain. It means when the brain of the baby in womb is developing any part of the brain if not developed it has to be, it leads to an ailment may be a minor or major abnormality.
It again has different implications due to different structural malformation. The one which will be discussed is
Sturge Weber syndrome

It's a sporadic disorder and occurs due to early embryological malformation of vascular system. There is a complex genetic mutation.
Presentation
Discoloration on usually one side of face around eyes( port wine stain)
Eye problems like glucoma
Epilepsy
Developmental delays may or may not.
Stroke like episodes etc
Investigation usually done is CT brain/ MRI brain
EEG.
Very difficult to control seizures. Usually resistant to medicines
Other modalities
Ketogenic diet
VNS
Neurosurgery in refractory seizure.
Management of other associated problems.
