➡️Varus / Valgus test

Flex the patient’s knee to 15–30º. Grasp at both ends of the tibia and exert a varus or valgus force on the knee.

The varus test assesses for a tear of the lateral collateral ligament (LCL).

The valgus test assesses for a tear of the medial collateral ligament (MCL).

Gapping or laxity of the joint indicates a positive test.

➡️Spurling test

The Spurling test is used to help diagnose cervical radiculopathy. It is especially useful for helping physicians determine the appropriateness of performing direct treatment to the cervical spine, such as HVLA, which should be avoided in severe cervical radiculopathy.

Narrowing of the neural foramina can cause referred pain into the ipsilateral arm upon compression of the cervical spine, due to nerve root compression (cervical radiculopathy).

To perform the Spurling test:

Stand behind the seated patient

Extend and side bend the cervical spine to the side being tested and push down on the patient’s head with axial pressure down the cervical spine

The test is positive if pain radiates down the ipsilateral arm

You may sometimes be able to localize the affected nerve root by determining the pain distribution along the arm.

The Spurling test is positive when the patient experiences numbness / tingling or radicular pain through the ipsilateral neck and upper extremity.

➡️Distraction Test (Cervical spine)

The distraction test is used for patients who have complained of radicular symptoms in the history and show radicular signs during the examination.

It is used to alleviate symptoms.

To perform the distraction test, the examiner places one hand under the patient's chin and the other hand around the occiput, then slowly lifts the patient's head in effect, applying traction to the cervical spine.

The test is classified as positive if the pain is relieved or decreased when the head is lifted or distracted, indicating pressure on nerve roots that has been relieved.

This test may also be used to check radicular signs referred to the shoulder complex anteriorly or posteriorly.

If the patient abducts the arms while traction is applied, the symptoms are often further relieved or lessened in the shoulder, especially if C4 or C5 nerve roots are involved.

In this case, the test would still be indicative of nerve root pressure in the cervical spine, not shoulder pathology.

Increased pain on distraction may be the result of muscle spasm, ligament sprain, muscle strain, dural irritability or anything else.

💥STROKE💥

According to the World Health Organisation, a Stroke is defined as an accident to the brain with "rapidly developing clinical signs of focal or global disturbance to cerebral function, with symptoms lasting 24 hours or longer, or leading to death, with no apparent cause other than of vascular origin and includes cerebral infarction, intracerebral hemorrhage, and subarachnoid hemorrhage".

➡️The commoner type is an ischemic stroke, caused by interruption of blood flow to a certain area of the brain. Ischemic stroke accounts for 85% of all acute strokes.

➡️15% of acute strokes are hemorrhagic strokes which are caused by bursting of a blood vessel i.e. acute hemorrhage.

➡️Most common risk factors are HYPERTENSION, DIABETES MELLITUS, SMOKING, OBESITY, GENETICS etc.

➡️An easy way to quickly identify the early warning signs of a stroke.
🔺BALANCE. Sudden dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.

🔺EYES. Sudden trouble seeing out of one or both eyes.

🔺FACE. First, check for facial weakness.

🔺ARMS. Next, check for arm weakness.

🔺SPEECH. Check for impaired speech.
