Farewell of Chairman; The Leadership Era That Transformed Charutar Arogya Mandal.

The farewell ceremony of the Chairman of Charutar Arogya Mandal (CAM), Shri Atulbhai Patel, was held on 16 December 2025 at Bhikhabhai Auditorium on the occasion of his completing 75 years of age, as mandated by the Constitution of the Mandal. Shri Patel served as Chairman from 1 December 2018 to 20 December 2025, during which he provided visionary and transformative leadership that significantly strengthened CAM’s healthcare and educational mission.

Known for his strong management acumen and extensive experience in leading service-oriented NGOs and foundations, Shri Atul Patel played a pivotal role in advancing community welfare and fostering the growth of Bhaikaka University. His leadership was instrumental in expanding and modernising the state-of-the-art facilities at Shree Krishna Hospital, which today serves the rural population of the Charotar region as well as patients from across Gujarat and neighbouring states.

A major milestone of his tenure was the establishment of Bhaikaka University as a private university, integrating CAM’s academic institutions under a unified framework that nurtures skilled, compassionate, and socially responsible medical professionals. Under his guidance, Shree Krishna Hospital has come to be widely regarded as one of India’s leading rural-based healthcare institutions.

The COVID-19 pandemic posed one of the greatest challenges the medical community has ever faced. Under his leadership, Shree Krishna Hospital rose to the occasion, mobilising every resource to combat the crisis. Over two years, the hospital treated nearly 10,000 patients and, at the peak of the pandemic, cared for nearly 600 individuals in a single day. In recognition of its exemplary service, the hospital received the ET Healthcare Award for Excellence in Hospital Management during COVID-19.

During his tenure, major developments included the expansion and modernisation of Shree Krishna Hospital; establishment of Bhaikaka University (BU) as a private university; launch of the Harikrupa Aushadh Sahay Yojna; creation of Gujarat’s largest 102-bed Critical Care Centre; commissioning of an advanced Cath-Lab at the Cardiac Centre; installation of PET-CT scan and TrueBeam Linear Accelerator at the Cancer Centre; enhancement of diagnostic and Cath-Lab facilities; and establishment of the Amrita Patel Centre for Public Health.

Nursing education infrastructure was expanded, a new Girls’ Hostel was initiated, and six operation theatres were renovated. Clinical and surgical facilities were significantly upgraded, along with the establishment of an advanced Simulation Centre and Clinical Skills Laboratory to enhance medical and paramedical education.
Several patient-centric enhancements and future-focused projects, including an Advanced Robotic and AI-based Rehabilitation and Research Centre, were also initiated.

Widely respected as a “Dharti Putra of Charotar,” Shri Atul Patel’s leadership, governance, and management skills were highly appreciated by governing body members, including Dr. Amarjeet Singh ,Shri Tarak Patel., Shri Jagrut Bhatt and other board members also praised his contributions.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Shri Amit Patel, Secretary, CAM; Dr. Gauri Trivedi, President, Bhaikaka University; Dr. Abhay Dharmasi, Provost, BU; Dr. Jyoti Tiwari, Registrar, BU; CAM governing body members; leaders and staff of Bhaikaka University; and other dignitaries. Shri Atul Patel was honoured with a shawl and mementos in recognition of his exemplary service.

25-Week Premature Baby Weighing 744 Grams Given New Lease of Life.

A 25-week-old premature baby, weighing just 744 grams, was given a new lease of life by the Neonatology Department of Shree Krishna Hospital, Karamsad. The baby’s mother, a resident of Khambhat, was referred to Shree Krishna Hospital from a private hospital in Khambhat in a critical condition. At the time of admission, she was experiencing severe low blood pressure and active labor pains, necessitating immediate medical intervention.
Soon after birth, the baby did not cry and was suffering from severe respiratory distress, along with a low heart rate. Owing to extreme prematurity and underdeveloped organs, the newborn required urgent and advanced neonatal care.

According to Dr. Dipen Patel and his neonatology team,“This was a case of extreme prematurity. The newborn required immediate respiratory and cardiac support due to underdeveloped lungs, heart, and gastrointestinal system.”

The baby was promptly shifted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and placed on ventilator support. The treatment included prolonged ventilatory care, administration of surfactant therapy—a life-saving treatment for premature babies with Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS)—and close monitoring. The baby also received treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and blood transfusions due to low hemoglobin levels.

After a challenging 101-day stay in the NICU, the baby showed remarkable improvement and was discharged in a stable condition, weighing 2 kilograms.
