Where Roads End, We Begin: A Doctor’s Journey into the Himalayan Wild
"Service to mankind is service to God."
This belief, seeded in me from childhood through volunteering, found new meaning in the Himalayas.
In 2021, I was posted at Sankri base camp (6,500 ft) as an emergency medical officer for trekking injuries. What struck me most wasn’t the altitude sickness or fractures—it was the lack of quality healthcare in nearby villages, many exploited by quacks masquerading as pharmacists. That’s when a vision took root: bring homoeopathy to the remotest parts of the Purola Himalayan range.
On 12th September, with 5 doctors, 3 volunteers, and 250 medicines, we set out to conduct medical camps. Rain, landslides, slippery 10-hour treks—nothing stopped us. From Taluka (8,000 ft) to Gangaad, Osla (9,000 ft), Jakhol, and Kasla—some villages were seeing a medical camp for the first time in history.
We were welcomed with apples and buttermilk in Gangaad 🍎🥛, and in Osla, we treated 1,300 patients in a single day from morning till dusk. In 15 days, across camps, we reached 8,300+ patients—each a story of resilience and hope.
There were injuries, fevers, and days when exhaustion almost broke us, but compassion kept us moving. The trust of the villagers, their blessings, and their faith in homoeopathy made every hardship worth it.
🙏 This journey wouldn’t have been possible without:
My father, Dr. Chandra Bhanu, whose 40 years of homoeopathic wisdom guided us.
My incredible team: Dr. Sameer, Dr. HariPriya, Dr. Mahesh, Dr. Vivian.
Our heroes on ground: Akhil Raj, Lakshmi Priya, Shubham, Jagadish, and Mangal.
The support of MP & former CM Thirath Singh Rawath.
And above all, the spirit of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand.
