During the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals worldwide observed liver damage in addition to respiratory illness. Now, a pattern of increased liver diseases is emerging. What is causing the rise in unhealthy livers among adults and the elderly?
To gain insight into the rise in liver disease cases, we must first investigate the general causes of liver problems and then analyze the changes that transpired during the Covid pandemic. This will enable us to identify the possible reasons for the increase in liver disease cases.
Liver is a vital organ that majorly carries out metabolism, digestion and detoxification in our body. Liver is also the only internal organ that can regenerate and replace damaged tissue. Possible causes for a liver disease are:
1. Infection & Long standing liver injury
2. Autoimmune diseases
3. Cancerous growths
4. Metabolic disorders & underlying diseases
5. Genetic disorders
6. Long-term alcohol usage & unhealthy lifestyles.
7. Certain prescription medicines
8. Long term contact with any toxins
The novel coronavirus COVID-19 is predominantly a respiratory illness, some extrapulmonary involvement of SARS-CoV-2 disease can be seen in organs like the liver, heart, or kidneys. Many studies throughout the world have also demonstrated that the liver is injured to differing degrees in patients affected by SARS-CoV-2 disease.
So, when we look at what all happened during the Covid Pandemic Period that may have affected the liver, we can brief the following:
1. Direct damages to the liver from the SARS-CoV-2 viral infection, during Covid period.
2. Individuals with Underlying Liver Diseases along with COVID infection, may have aggravated the liver damage. Other underlying diseases may also have contributed to multiple organ failure that affected liver, during Covid period.
3. Increased Prescription Medicines which could've led to hepatotoxicity.
4. Lockdown caused unhealthy lifestyles affected the mind and body of all people, that compounded to every individual's reduced metabolism and reduced immunity.
5. Ischemic-hypoperfusion injuries thatt happened to different organs including the liver, from Hypoxic ischemia resulted from the Covid-19 infection that causes damage to alveolar-capillary barrier in lungs, during Covid period.
6. After effects and side effects of Covid vaccines that were made mandatory, but even now has an insufficient data on the set of its after effects.
From the correlation of the above, we may be able to deduct the reasons for the possible causes that may have contributed to the presently (After Covid period) emerging liver diseases.
Now it all comes to the question, what can be done now?
1. An effective Homoeopathic treatment helps bring the body (including the liver) back to health. Get treatment for any long standing diseases.
2. Balanced diet and regimen: Keep your body active and healthy with the necessary rich nutrients and minerals, and regular physical warm up.
3. Check your bowel movements (regular defecation): Consult your doctor if you experience constipation related problems.
4. Meditation and Stress relief Techniques: Keep your mind active and healthy.
