The liver performs several functions. A few among them are:

⚫Clearing toxins from our blood.

⚫Producing and regulating different vitamins, minerals, and blood products that are essential in the healthy functioning of our brain and nervous system.

So if our liver gets sick, the impact can also be seen in our mood and cognition (hepatic encephalopathy).

Depression, anxiety, trouble concentrating, confusion, forgetfulness Etc could be ways in which our liver is trying to tell us that it needs help.

Mohammed Fahim was just three months old when he was brought to Lakeshore Hospital. His Bilirubin count was constantly increasing, and tests indicated that his liver was not functioning correctly.

He was in dire need of a liver transplant, and the only person in his family who could donate a liver was his grandmother, Paatumuthu. But she was suffering from fatty liver disease and diabetes.

Though this was a major challenge, it did not bring her down. She was committed and was willing to go to any extent to save her grandson's life.

With a strict diet, she brought her fatty liver under control and successfully donated her liver. Her devotion and love for her dear grandson saved his life!

I've come across such a beautiful story for the first time in my career as a liver surgeon. That is why it is so close to my heart.
