Kokrajhar district can be described as the gateway to the beautiful North Eastern Region of India. Karigaon is located 19 KM towards North from Kokrajhar city. Kokrajhar Railway station is the nearest railway station to Karigaon. The National Highway-31(C) is divided Karigaon into two side. A statue of Jwhwlao Daimalu on the National Highway and Children Park having statue of a Dinosaur identifies Karigaon. This Place is in the border of the Kokrajhar District and Chirang District. Karigaon is occupied by different communities and cultures. The colourful Bodo community comprises the majority in Karigaon. The Karigaon also has a sizeable Rabha, Santhal and Assamese population. In terms of religion, altogether 80 percent population is constituted by the Bathouism, 15 percent by the Hindus and 5 percent of the total population belongs to Christian religion. Boro language is the local language here. Socio-economic condition of Karigaon is very poor. There is no fixed jobs that the house-hold members were engaged in agriculture activities for the purpose of self-sustain only. Almost 80 percent people were engaged in paddy production for their own use on their personal land, 10% people were engaged in small business, few members engaged in daily wage earner and least members were engaged in Governmental services. . The major crops cultivated by farmer viz. rice, jute, mustard, flax, etc. Other items produced for self or family consumption was vegetables, poultry, handloom production, milk, horticulture, livestock, fishing, etc. Before creation of BTC there were not any developmental projects in Karigaon. We have seen some developmental works were done in Karigaon only after 2005. After the creation of BTC, there were irrigation facility, electric facility and road construction has been established. Foundation stone of a food processing industry was laid by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary on 22nd February of 2011 in Karigaon, which estimated cost is Rs. 33 crore. Construction of PHC (Primary Health Centre) is also going on in Karigaon. There is only one High school in Karigaon which was established in the year 1987, but it is still not provincialized. From 2005 this school has got some packages for the construction of academic buildings and boundary wall, but teachers of this school engaged without salary. After creation of BTC they formed VCDC (Village Council Development Committee) named Karigaon Tarang Serfang VCDC which is playing key role for the development of Karigaon. Some developmental schemes like construction of roads, bridge, irrigation canals, etc. were implemented through Karigaon Tarang Serfang VCDC.
