This is the week for Comet A6 Lemmon! It reaches its closest distance from the Earth on Oct 21st (55 million miles) and should continue to brighten over the week as it gets closer to the Sun. I captured this photo on the morning of the 18th. I love all the knots and changing in direction of the blue in tail as the solar wind intensity varies. The conditions were bad, but was happy I could capture it, even if it looks less impressive than previous mornings. The 19th was the last day for me to capture it in the morning, it is now best seen right after dusk in the North West sky just to the lower left of the Big Dipper. It’s in the constellation Bootes above the bright star Arcturus. You will need a dark sky and clear horizon to see it and likely binoculars unless your sky is very dark. Weather is looking ok this week so I should have more photos to share.
