Publication Alert !!!

Honoured to collaborate as the core group member for PRECEDENT Study Group which now has published the findings as "A core outcome set for locoregional treatment reporting in neoadjuvant systemic breast cancer treatment trials" in npj Breast Cancer. As part of the Springer Nature SharedIt initiative, a stable, shortened URL is now available to share full-text access by using the following link:

https://rdcu.be/eM8c3

Accurate information about locoregional breast cancer treatments following neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST) is essential for meaningful interpretation of oncological outcomes but reporting is currently poor. We developed a core outcome set (COS) to improve the quality and consistency of locoregional outcome reporting in breast cancer NST trials. The COS was developed in three phases according to COS-STAD guidance, with the generation of a list of relevant outcome domains, prioritisation of outcomes through two rounds of an international online multi-stakeholder Delphi survey and a consensus meeting. 159 unique locoregional outcomes were classified into 101 outcome domains for inclusion in the Delphi survey, which was completed by 470 international professionals. Widespread COS implementation will improve the quality and value of future NST trials.

đŸ§‘â€âš•ī¸Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure performed by doctors using a robotic system. Surgeons control the robotic arms with precise flexibility through the robotic system to perform many complex surgeries much better and with greater accuracy.

🚑đŸĨHow it works:
✅Robotic Arms: The system includes robotic arms that hold surgical instruments. These arms are controlled by the surgeon from a console.
✅High-Definition Camera: High-definition, 3D cameras provide a magnified, zoomed view of the surgical site, allowing doctors to see the operation area better and perform the surgery.
✅Surgeon's Console: The surgeon operates the robotic arms using joysticks while viewing the surgical site on a screen.

Advantages of Robotic Surgery:
📌Minimally Invasive: Smaller incisions, less pain, less blood loss compared to traditional open surgery.
📌Precision: Surgery is performed much more accurately due to technology such as 3D view and robotic arms.
📌Reduced Risk of Infection: Smaller incisions and less tissue manipulation reduce the risk of infection.
📌Faster Recovery: Recovery is much quicker than with traditional surgery.

đŸŽ—ī¸đŸ‘ŠUterine cancer, also known as endometrial cancer, is a type of cancer that affects the uterus. It occurs when abnormal cells in the lining of the uterus grow and divide uncontrollably. It primarily affects women over the age of 50, although it can occur in younger women as well. Risk factors for uterine cancer include obesity, hormonal imbalances, a history of certain types of cancer, and a family history of uterine, ovarian, or colon cancer.

đŸĨRobotic hysterectomy (Uterus removal) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure where đŸĨŧsurgeons remove the uterus using robotic arms. It is becoming popular now for its certain benefits.
Early detection and treatment are key in improving the outcomes for women with uterine cancer.

đŸ”ŦThe main treatment options for uterine cancer include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The specific treatment plan will depend on factors such as the stage and grade of the cancer.

đŸŽ—ī¸Taking a *second opinion is extremely important in cancer treatment. It allows a patient to get an opinion from another doctor or medical team regarding their diagnosis and proposed treatment plan. The main reasons for this are discussed below:

✅Confirmation and Peace of Mind:
👉Verifying the Diagnosis
Cancer diagnosis can be very complex, and even a small mistake can have a major impact on treatment. A second opinion can confirm whether your diagnosis, cancer type, and stage are correct.
👉Gaining Reassurance:
If the second doctor agrees with your initial diagnosis and treatment plan, it will give you peace of mind. Your confidence in making the right decision about treating a serious illness will increase.

✅Different Expertise and Treatment Options:
👉Specialist Knowledge
Different doctors, especially those at large academic or specialized cancer centers, may have more experience with your specific type of cancer. They may be aware of the latest research or new treatment methods that are not widely available.
👉Alternative Methods
A second opinion can inform you about different types of treatment or a different sequence of treatments. For example, a doctor might suggest a less invasive surgery, a different type of chemotherapy, or a combination of multiple treatments that were not initially mentioned. This can lead to more effective treatment with fewer side effects and a better quality of life.

✅Avoiding Misdiagnosis and Overtreatment:
👉Although not very common, misdiagnosis can occur. Getting a second opinion can help catch errors in the initial diagnosis, which can help you avoid unnecessary or even harmful treatments.
👉A second opinion can sometimes lead a doctor to recommend a less aggressive treatment plan. For example, they might advise observation instead of immediate treatment or a less extensive surgery, which can improve quality of life and reduce risks and side effects.

đŸĨŧWhen to Get a Second Opinion

While a second opinion is often a good idea, it's particularly important in certain situations:
👨‍đŸĢCancer is of a rare or unusual type
👨‍đŸĢThe proposed treatment is a major or life-changing surgery
👨‍đŸĢThe diagnosis is unclear, or the pathology report is difficult to interpret.
