At times, patients suffering Road accidents have impact on their head/Face leading to injury to a nerve which supplies the muscles of the face. It is called the Facial nerve. This results in asymmetry of the face and patient lands up in difficulty of moving the forehead, brows, closing eyes, closing mouth, disfigured smile etc.
It’s a pathetic condition and leads to functional and psychological effects on the patient and near one’s. If reported within time and to proper physician, this is quite reversible and changes the life of the patient in 3-6 months.
Here’s one such example, where the patient reported to us after almost 2months of injury, which is quite late by the way. He had lost all hopes and mentally drained out.
We offered to do a surgery called microscopic Facial nerve decompression surgery along with good physiotherapy. After 2 months of surgery, results are quite satisfactory and he will definitely improve further in another 3-4 months.
Do not panic in case anyone faces such situation, there’s a solution in most cases. Spread the awareness!

Grow food, not to***co.

It’s disheartening to see so called “celebrities “, “filmstars” , “icons” etc endorsing pan-masalas/ gutkha on television, radio, newspaper, hoardings and where not in the name of flavour elaichi (cardamom) of the same brands. Do you think they even take a morsel of the product they endorse on screen? I guess not.
Working in a government set up and dealing with cancer patients every day it’s devastating to see how families are ruined once a patient addicted to any form of to***co succumbs to the deadly disease called “cancer”, most common being the head & neck region.
Had this energy and effort being channelled to spreading the awareness on harmfulness of to***co, this country would have been a far better place to live in.

At times surgeons do make mistakes and just like a good friend should do, another surgeon steps in to rescue the patient as well as the fellow surgeon.

This patient was undergoing stapes surgery on the right ear and inadvertently got hit on the Facial nerve by mistake by a dear colleague. She landed up in a Grade V palsy post operative. It was decided to go for a Facial nerve decompression surgery after explaining the benefits of the procedure to the patient. Her husband was reluctant initially but finally gave in.

After a successful decompression surgery and 3months of physiotherapy the girl got back her facial functions. The husband was all smiles during her last visit.
