ASSICON 2026 | Fellows’ Academic Achievements
At ASSICON 2026, the annual conference of the Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI) and the largest gathering of national and international spine surgeons, fellows from the Spine Research Foundation and The Spine Foundation demonstrated strong academic participation and outcomes.
Dr Deepanshu Maheshwari had his paper selected for presentation in the prestigious VTI Gold Medal paper session, shortlisted from hundreds of abstracts submitted nationwide. Dr Ajay VM, Dr Shubham Kumar, and Dr Dhrumil Kanti Patel presented scientific papers and participated in the ASSI Quiz, reflecting a balanced engagement with clinical learning, research methodology, and academic scholarship.
Dr Dhruv, who recently completed his fellowship under the guidance of Dr Saumyajit Basu, was awarded the Best Thesis Award (2023–2025) at the national level, while Dr Dhruv Patel and Dr Harsh Patel received fellowship completion certificates.
The academic progress of the fellows reflects the structured clinical and research opportunities provided through the fellowship programmes, supported by senior faculty guidance from Dr Saumyajit Basu ,Dr Indrajit Roy, Dr Trinanjan Sarangi, Dr Amitava Biswas, and Dr Vikas Hanasoge.

ASSICON 2026 | Pune

The ASSICON 2026, the annual conference of the Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI), held in Pune, reflected the continuing leadership of Dr Saumyajit Basu in Indian spine surgery. Recognised as the largest gathering of spine surgeons in the country, ASSICON 2026 brought together leading national and international spine surgeons and academic associations on a common platform.

As Immediate Past President of ASSI and a globally respected spine surgeon known for his work in deformity surgery, Dr Basu’s presence and academic engagement remained closely linked with the advancement of structured training, ethical practice, and research-driven spine care in India. His leadership continues to shape young surgeons, strengthen academic culture, and contribute to a long-term, sustainable vision for spine care.

On 11th January 2026, Spine Foundation and Spine Research Foundation , in collaboration with Aamar Bidhannagar (a citizen forum), participated in the Multi-Specialty Wellness Workshop under the theme “Highway to Happy Living”, with a focused session on geriatric spine health.
An interactive public awareness discussion on spinal issues, their prevention, management, and long-term care was conducted, highlighting the importance of maintaining mobility and independence in older adults.
The session “Stable Spine, Robust Health” was moderated by Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi , with expert inputs from the panelists- Dr. Saumyajit Basu ,Dr. Indrajit Roy and Dr. Amitava Biswas
Active participation and thoughtful questions from senior citizens made the session impactful and meaningful.
We thank Bidhannagar for facilitating this collaborative effort to promote awareness, preventive care, and healthy ageing in the community.

Scoliosis Screening Program | 8 January 2026

On 8th January, Spine Research Foundation, in collaboration with The Spine Foundation, conducted a Scoliosis Screening Program at Sailendra Sircar Vidyalaya Sailendra Sircar Vidyalaya

The program aimed at early identification of spinal deformities among school children, emphasizing the importance of timely detection and referral to prevent long-term complications. Using simple clinical examination techniques and digital scoliometer-based assessment, students were screened in a structured and child-friendly environment.

We are grateful to the school authorities, teachers, and students for their enthusiastic participation and cooperation. Special thanks to our dedicated clinical and support team for ensuring a smooth and ethical screening process.

Early detection can change lives.
Together, we continue working towards healthier spines and informed schools.

The Spine Research Foundation and The Spine Foundation is pleased to announce UPRIGHT ’26 – Annual Spine Health Awareness Program, focusing on the early detection and intervention of scoliosis in school children.

🦴 Theme: Early Detection and Intervention of Scoliosis
📅 Date: 1st February 2026
⏰ Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon
📍 Venue: Rotary Sadan, Kolkata

This interactive awareness program will bring together eminent spine specialists, educators, parents, and students to discuss spine health, early warning signs of scoliosis, and the importance of timely intervention.

✨ Winners of the Essay & Poster Competition on Spine Health will also be felicitated during the program.

As we step into a new year filled with hope and purpose, we are delighted to share a moment of pride for The Spine Foundation & Spine Research Foundation.

We warmly congratulate Dr Dhruv Patel, ASSI Spine Fellow at Kothari Medical Center, on being conferred the ASSI (Association of Spine Surgeons of India) Best Thesis Award (2023–2025).
