Today, on World Patient Safety Day, 17th September 2025 we at KPC Medical College & Hospital, Jadavpur recommit ourselves to the fundamental promise of medicine: to care, to heal, to protect. This year’s WHO theme reminds us that safe care must begin from the very first breaths — for every newborn, and for every child. Because in their vulnerability lies our greatest responsibility.
What we at KPC Medical College & Hospital pledge to do
1. Ensure safe, evidence-based protocols in our neonatal and paediatric units — from correct dosing to infection control; from monitoring to follow-ups.
2. Strengthen staff training — doctors, nurses, support staff — on child-specific safety issues: recognizing early warning signs, effective communication with parents, safe use of equipment.
3. Engage parents and caregivers as partners: encouraging them to ask questions, be part of decision-making, and observe care; their role is vital.
4. Promote a culture of safety: where mistakes can be reported and discussed without blame, where continuous improvement is embedded.
5. Use data and feedback: track adverse events in newborn/child care, analyse root causes, implement corrective measures, and share lessons learned.
A call to everyone: Together, we can do better
To our students, our medical and nursing staff, our support team, our patients and families, and our community:
- Speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
- Listen to the whispers of discomfort — in a child who can’t say much, in a parent who fears their child is not being heard.
- Support safety standards — wash hands, use checklists, double-wire critical doses, ensure cleanliness, and care.
- Recognize that safety is not optional. It is part of caring. It must start "from the start".
Let us remember: beautiful tomorrows for our patients begin with safe care today.
